Made my first million within a year after campus. Was working at the time but I decided to start a business on the side and just kept looking for jobs and tenders and applying for them. After about 4 months of endless applications, finally landed a small contract which I over delivered on and that led to another that paid 4.8million with me taking a 2mill profit in 2 months. I was barely 25 yrs old then. Invested 1M in a new business and 1M in the NSE, quit my job.

Eh. Good for you, especially if you remembered to stay humble at that age.. Applause

Made my first 4M after University. I got a job then joined a sacco and faithfully saved all the money I had left after paying my rent and upkeep. I took a loan after 6 months and along with two others invested in a real estate opportunity that presented itself at just the exact amount we could raise collectively. I repaid the loan in 5 months and remained with my cool profit. While my colleagues were partying and buying cars I was buying my second and third properties. Now I've eased on property and ventured into the NSE and business and if all goes well I plan to quit the employee quadrant before my 30th birthday.

Not quite. Early success can be a double edged sword. It made me overconfident and I ended up blowing quite a bit of money on a business that never came through which took me back to square one. The big lesson learnt is don't let success get into your head, understand factors apart from how "smart" or determined you think you are that led to your success i.e. what are the fundamentals of the business you're going into and are they favorable? It's like a swimming competition, the guys swimming in the same direction as a fast flowing river will move faster than those swimming against the current no matter their swimming talent.

+1 for those words of wisdom.

@ mv_ufanisi - you are an inspiration. Even your response to the congratulation/admiration of how you stayed humble in your achievements, just brings out the virtue of humility more. Kudos.

For me I think while others were making their first million, I was busy having a pity party, Sad no story there. However, I have been fired up by reading through this and other threads in the forum. I intend to save in the sacco, then borrow prudently and put up rentals.

I may probably have a "first million" story in 2016-2017 na huko.
