It means if for example you have 1000 kengen rights issue allocated to you.
If you don't want to participate in the rights and would like to sell them in the mkt your proceeds will be
1000*0.05=ksh.50 then deduct brokerage charges

Thanks, understood for the case of the seller. What about the case of the buyer who will take these rights?

The buyer who will take the rights you are selling will buy at 6.55+0.05=6.60

The people to be diluted are those who will not defend their rights. It doesn't make sense for them to sell at 4 bob when they were diluted at 6.55 and the true value of the share is north of 20 bob. But hey markets are ruled by emotion, nothing is impossible

Alcohol manufacturer turns to solar power to stem costs

http://www.businessdaily...4/-/dmkht0/-/index.html

KPLC will definitely take a hit as more folks turn to solar installed at their premises be they home-owners using solar to heat their water or factories installing solar roofs to provide power for lighting & even manufacturing.

Will KenGen suffer from lower sales (or expansion)?

This is HUGE!

"...power bill from electricity distributor Kenya Power is in excess of Sh60 million annually"

"looking to save Sh18 million in power costs annually for at least 25 years with the installation of solar panels on its factory's rooftops in Athi River."

"...the company would recoup the initial investment in solar energy in six years."

"The cost-cutting drive has also led the firm to construct a biogas plant fed with molasses waste to generate electricity, saving it Sh10 million annually"

" Tightlipped about the cost...and runs parallel to the electricity grid." Seems to be more of a backup. KenGen injects cheap geothermal power to the grid. As long as it continues to do so n the setup costs for solar power remains prohibitive, it's still in business.

Now even 'retail' customers are getting into the energy business. This is for those in rural areas.

It seems the idea is that KPLC becomes the back-up coz the solar generation, despite its cost, is saving them money or they would not have installed it.

Anyway, good luck with all the new projects to inject more power into the system. I hope the large industrial consumers are there to take up the new supply.

We are still consuming very little power as compared to some developed nations. 1500MW demand while South Africa says 45,000MW is not enough. I still see lots of room for growth. Solar still cannot be stored in humongous quantities and its great for those companies with lots of idle land.
