At best an agreement will be reached by Aug 2014 but the factory will take at least 2 years thereafter [2017] to be operational.

Aug 2014 is ground breaking time which is a major step. More, getting financing from the conservative bankers is a great mark of confidence in the local sugar industry ;)
The loans have NOT been given/approved but is under discussion according to the article. There's a lot of time to go.

Those discussions are targeted to be done by June. Thats a time but money will be made. We shall sell the news then, while some will be rushing to buy ;)

Thats well and good...whats the future of this company a few years from now.

The future is bright. Refer to ongoing reforms in the sugar industry, mumias buying a couple of the small firms and also expanding to Tana/Athi River ... Omnicane entry into Kenyan market says it all on the future of industry

Let us build some castles in the sky this Furahiday. One time Safcom was similarly out of favor, dancing around similar levels to lower. Fastforward...Smh! Amen! smile

this is the weird thing with shares. mumias at its optimum potential deserves to trade at 13.00 more than safaricom. and at a fair pe.

Dude, you can say that again...Some more tealeaves are that points of inflection can be reached, as in the case of Safcom, and now probably MSC, after the change of guard at the top. CEOs whose mandate is very clear; Shake up & growth initiatives combo.

Let's see.

Oh yes, we should also look out for the same from Kenol Kobil!!

Omnicane is starting from Ground Zero. A new factory, hybrid sugarcane, a large nucleus estate and little political baggage. If it were listed as a 'start-up' or even as a GEMS listing, I would be interested. As for Mumias... old(er) equipment, old breeds of cane and reliance on smallholders with political clout.

OK. What percentage of the national deficit will they satisfy? [200K T]. In between time is what we're looking at with MSC.

Without COMESA safeguards, can Mumias survive? Firms like Butali & West Kenya are more efficient than Mumias.

Well, the proceedings here (on playing MSC) have been very clear. Barrier 1. Cane supply - done. 2. COMESA extension 3. Improving competitiveness.

In that order.

Aaand action! Mumias eyes cost-cutting to reverse Sh1.6bn loss

Mumias recently reduced the price at which it is buying cane from Sh3,825 per tonne to Sh3,385. Its rivals have also reduced their prices by between 11.5 per cent and 27 per cent in what is seen as signal of increased cane supply.

Ex- factory prices for local which means imported should be lower.Expect further price falls until imports are mopped up but this also creates a true picture of what will happen when the Comesa safeguards are finally off.....actually,the cane price drops were due to low local sugar demand and it was ignited by the small millers.

Awe$ome. Barrier no. 2

@Njung'e how should we (trust) interpret the stats given by KSB, by extension KNBS http://www.knbs.or.ke/news/lei112013.pdf where it shows improved cane delivery after June 2013? Desktop thinking would be the increase in supply means a drop in cane prices, shelf prices and hence improved consumer demand? This is food we're talking about.

Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

It's 0.10 divided by 3.10 times 100 equals 3.22%.
Paka is selling at same price. I wonder which is more valuable!
