The utimate goal of investing is to buy low sell high;if we re-write this core equation in psychology terms it becomes buy fear sell greed.

Buffet is smart... and when he buys he looks at fair price (intrinsic value) not the current price... what I mean is that WB buys when he think the price is right (or undervalued)... so it matter little if the price drops coz it will come back...
**** Of course,the fundamentals - economy,industry,sector - have to be the same...

Buffet doesnt buy 'turnaround' businesses... BNSF was doing OK thank you... but he gave it some whoomp... whereas RVR (old KR) was a dead business & now even deader!

The reason WB looks at long term is because he has experience in short term failures. Dude was once bankrupt, owing over a billion USD and look at where he is now? He actually used to advise Bill Gates: compare their networth.

The last time global recession hit stocks this big was in 1929 and the market did not recover for about 5 years. Most of you,NSE (and for some your parents) were just rumours back then and it might break some hearts and egos to say the market will have recovered by 2016 as some collumnist put it...and most of you are lucky the slump taught you this early in your not-so-elaborate 'stocks careers'. Lets all stand up and clap for the recession.

I mean lets all invest for 2030 and 2040 not for an unprecedented act of God that will take the NSE all share Index to 10,000...because,that wont happen.

Buy and hold doesn't work all the time. Infact,it only works if you buy months before an economy hits rock bottom. And this doesn't apply in every market...

@nairobbery - Erm,when was WB bankrupt? Puhleeze tell me with sources... WB is not Donald trump...

**** @mainat - Well, the B&H strategy is not absolute... meaningu do sell at some point if there are better opportunities BUT if done the WB way produces much better results than any trader I have read about...
