Had been doing 'this and that' since 1980 [truck driver, store keeper, labourer at railway go-downs,shop-keeper etc]

First 'real' job came in 1991 after completing masters degree. Salary was sh4,750 (basic) plus sh5,000 house allowance.....yes the house allowance was higher than the salary.....total sh9,750 gross.

After taxes,it came to about sh7,500. Those days the top tax bracket started at sh11,000 and the rate was 45%.

sh5,000 went to paying deposit and rent on my new house, leaving with only sh2,500...suddenly,I felt very poor!

Behind the gardens...Behind the wall...Under the tree (Including: Red...Dark Blue...Yellow)
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

When I was first paid,I didn't know what to do with the money. I asked my dad whether I should give to him,he said no,and he added me some more on top as pocket money. Thereafter,I went for a shopping spree, clothes, shoes, handbags name it. My dad used to give me fare so I didn't feel the impact until he was transferred to another town and left on my own, that's when reality struck home. Whew.... I wish we learn our lessons much earlier.

I will praise thee,O Lord my God,with all my heart: And I will glorify thy name forever more. Psalms 86:12
