It'll actually be free for bodas and tuktuks. But remember, the current Msa road will also be added extra lanes (those open spaces separating the carriageways will be no more) all the way from Mlolongo. Moreover, all feeder roads will be significantly changed to allow seamless vehicular flow into the decker..

Kenyans love free things and the poverty levels at middle class is real. with loans every shilling counts If you are driving from westlands to the airport or mbs rd to westlands, you'd rather pay the 100 bob toll fee and use the elevated free way than be stuck kwa jam for 3 hours burning 1000bob fuel and miss your flight or be late for work. 100% agreed. Business opportunities are like buses, there's always another one coming

The open spaces you mention will be used for the expressway at grade sections since it will be raised after ole sereni What is proposed is to use 1 lane of the existing road for the BRT leaving the old road with only 2 lanes for those not willing to pay

The article reads: The concessionaire has been granted exclusive concession right for 30 years, including construction period. Within this period, the government or any other developer cannot implement a project, which will affect profitability of the Chinese company collecting toll from the expressway users. This means road users will pay a toll every time they use the road up to 2049... So for 30 years the contractor will collect toll and is shielded from any roads or projects that could affect them. Does this imply that even a tram, subway, railway etc cannot be done on this stretch or any stretch that could affect traffic on this expressway ?

Even SGR should have been built and operated on concession. Let people who use the service pay for it. Let there be an incentive for the operators to maintain the facility. There is no need for someone in Bondo paying for a Railway to Suswa!!

Plus uhuru highway must be expanded to give space for the pillars supporting the road above the highway. Portfolio: Sold You know you've made it when you get a parking space for your yatcht.

Also this new road is much like the new outering rd where the express sections are on pillars or tunneled and mchina utilised the road reserve so pillars can also be put on uhuru highway while utilising the road reserve. Thus theres no need to demolish parliament or encroach on uhuru park to build the road. Shida is that our chonolists get too excited when they hear about road construction only thinking about compensations and demolitions.

Same discussions like in the 'Thika road expansion was a mistake' thread http://www.wazua.co.ke/f...sts&t=7643&p=15
Govt will ignore and build more expressways and induce more demand and more traffic will turn up. Let them do as they please. As soon as the expressway is opened the traffic jams will return as people will move from Nairobi to Machakos and Dustbowl

Govt will ignore and build more expressways and induce more demand and more traffic will turn up. Let them do as they please. As soon as the expressway is opened the traffic jams will return as people will move from Nairobi to Machakos and Dustbowl Nature abhors vacuum. When you move to a new house with more space you are inclined to buy more furniture. Same with roads. People will buy more vehicles and move to the areas without traffic jams. Wider roads on their own will not solve congestion in the city and the only way is to to come up with a proper mass transport system that would encourage people to leave personal vehicles at home and board public means. Most people wrongly think that traffic jams are caused by matatus. Just take a sample of ten vehicles in Nairobi and see how many are matatus. Actually, matatus cause jam not by numbers but by sheer stupidity. Look at the Westlands stage everyday, and you will realise it takes just 5 matatus to cause a jam. They stop on the road, block off lanes, dont move, no courtesy etc. The main cause of jam in Nairobi is stupidity, 50% psvs, 50% traffic cops. Business opportunities are like buses, there's always another one coming

The main cause of jam in Nairobi is stupidity, 50% psvs, 50% traffic cops. I give stupidity 80% both private cars and matatus I fully agree. One good example is the Outering/GSU junction where it is total chaos everyday. The GM stage on Mombasa road is another problematic area. The Mathare mental hospital is another mismanaged section of Thika road as well as gardencity(bumps).Lets not even talk about the madness on outering road where matatus have informal terminus from Thika road all the way to Eastern bypass. They also have Matatus in South Africa. However, unlike in Kenya, Matatus there are express i.e., if you live in Baba dogo you board a matatu in Baba dogo and it is express to CBD and vice versa.Hakuna mambo ya shukisha survey. Also, the robots there work and you will never find stupid idle cops stopping vehicles vi holela holela. Jay walking is also illegal and most importantly No speed bumps and zebra crossing on the expressway. Dumb money becomes dumb only when it listens to smart money
