If you have ever been to UG ,you would know that most of what is said and written about Idi Amin is not true.
More people were killed during the reigns of Obote and M7. Amin attacked the elite and they are the writers of history.
Please tell us what has been written about Amin that is not true.
There are numerous first hand reports of people being picked up by Amin's goons and never being seen again. Some people were picked up at home and never seen by their family again.
Prominent leaders like Luwum and Oryema died mysterious deaths after being arrested by amin's goons.
Even ordinary people met similar fates.
His torture chambers are now a tourist attraction complete with blood stains on the walls. There are pictures of mass graves and rows upon rows of skeletons.
Amin was not a cool guy. Jomo was not a cool guy,Putin is not a cool guy heck leaders are not necessarily good guys.
Amin had limitations. He was not well educated. He spent his early years with KAR fighting Mau mau in Kangema and he hurt many people.
However, Amin never carried out village massacres in uganda. True,he was paranoid and his equally semi-illiterate lieutenants were uncomfortable with the elite and quite a number lost their lives.
Point is, Amin was popular with peasants. His battle was with the learned p and rich who he perceived as a threat. Tanzania forces killed many innocent people in West Nile all the way of way to Koboko.
The most dreaded in Uganda history was not Amin's army though he had a killer force known as State Research Bureau. The most brutal army was the UNLA which spread terror during OboteII regime and in the short regime of Okello Lutwa. Thousands were killed in Luwero triangle.
The tourist attractions you are referring to must be the Luwero triangle skulls centre.
