Very true ...3G is just a myth.We all share the same bandwidth.The more users the less the speeds.So either 3G or edge all are the same.It all depends on the numbers of users accessing the internet at the same time.

Interesting,in Western kenya,its been giving an error message Error 619,A connection to the remote computer could not be established so the port used for this connection was closed' this started on Saturday 16th May 2009 and almost terminated my contract with Zain. However,got back to Nairobi on Monday and everything was fine,travelled back to Western Kenya(Kisumu/Kakamega/Kericho/Siaya),it still has issues depending on the region.
I happen to have both Zain and Safaricom postpaid modems since June last year. My take is,if you are a heavy user(you do stuff beyond facebook and webmail) then Zain is the way to go and get yourself download managers and torrents. There are times i download over 1 GB within a night. Hope Zain wont bill me double now that i've confessed to being a heavy user.
Safaricom also had the same issue last Sunday evening but for a few hours but was resolved within 2 hours.

@mukiha,

Ati 15kBps-20kBps? And you are satisfied with that? On Safcom 3G the worst I have experienced is 115kBps. And when streaming video the damn thing shoots up to 1Mbps. 3G is not a myth,it is for real...

@holycow: Perhaps ur error msg simply means that there's a problem on the Zain side at Western hence the remote computer error. The remote comp refers to Zain transceiver equip not your modem. Zain should probably improve their coverage at your place in Western.

Am based in Nairobi but travel alot. What i mean,is that from Kericho all the way to Kisumu,Kakamega,Siaya. I get the same error message. something else,normally when things are working out fine,it writes EDGE CELTEL,whenever i get this message,it indicates,GSM CELTEL. Yes you are right,its the ZAIN MSC thats got an issue not even the BTS.

true,personally,i've gotten very fast speeds at 5am in Nairobi,but lets be honest,how much do you pay for streaming a 10 minute video(a leg and an arm) that explains why Zain's unlimited data access is better.
