uhuru was not made president by moi as has become a common saying nowadays. moi only introduced him to politics. uhuru became president because of backing kibaki and his perceived role as a savior of his people in the pev. that's how mount kenya moved solidly behind him and gave him a powerful negotiating position nationally.
gideon doesnt have the kalenjin behind him and there's no sign there'll be a massive national crisis that will enable him pry them away from ruto. the uhuru presidency was a result of several circumstances coming together. it was a stroke of good luck. lightning will not strike twice.

kama nilivyosema, several circumstances came together but the number one is uhuru getting the backing of mount kenya. it is what made uhuru a person worth being talked to. otherwise ruto the hustler would have looked for saitoti or karua for talks if that is who the mountain was behind. realpolitik.
uhuru failed spectacularly in 2002 with the backing of moi and ruto. mount kenya vote block made him attractive to politicians like mudavadi, kalonzo and ruto in 2012/2013. the icc cases were a stroke of lucky glue and ruto-uhuru camaraderie a plus.
for the same reason the backing of the kalenjin is the number one reason that william ruto is DP today. without them he'd be another random rift valley politician like gideon moi. of course ruto took a very risky but strategic gamble to back another kikuyu as president and its looking like it will pay off in 2022. but as a pragmatist, he had to do it because the mount kenya voter block is twice as large as the kalenjin and has been the largest monolithic block in the country. if they back him, he has a huge headstart.
raila is who he is first because of the luo vote, kalonzo because of the kamba vote. joho is trying the same in coast and mudavadi in western. hivyo ndiyo siasa ya kenya inapangwa at the moment.
