Maraga is politically naive. He was reading a statement for the Judicial Service Commission. At the very least he should have allowed the statement to be read by any of the other members of the JSC like Muchelule who was not part of the presidential petition decision. That way it would have appeared like the Judiciary is taking a united position of solidarity. By putting himself at the center and even at the end arrogantly telling journalists that they are not taking questions he has isolated himself as a lone crusader. Politicians will skin him alive.

When you call a press conference you have entered political space and you should be very careful about how you are perceived in that space.

By the way, understandably the unspoken msg from the presser is that JSC will not recommend tribunal (formed by executive and report sent to parliament) for the 2 judges 'coz judiciary is indipendent'. That other part on 'ultimate price' means they are ready to face the consequences by so doing. The part on 'referendum' was pointer to the weakness in katiba on this matter...coz..if JSC doesn't recommend tribunal the matter ends there ...unless you people of kenya change the constitution

I hounestly sympathise with Maraga. Politics is a dirty game and the players don't mind the everyday mudslinging. Now, this man of God is in the mix and the more he opens his mouth the more he drifts into it. Poor CJ aka Judiciary politician.smile

Here is a man who can't/or not used to pressure. what if he was in Chebukati's shoes? I think he would implode. For now, someone tell him old men don't get mad. At least not in Savage country They get even.
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

Those of you who listened to CJ address in full, what did he say about the petition against his 2 colleagues? Did he say the judiciary is open to scrutiny as per the rule of law? The media seems to have Left out this part? Coz I don't want to imagine he didn't say anything about this...

No mention about matters before JSC - the petitions are within the law so can't be casually commented on.

Address only dealt with extra-judicial matters: threats, attacks, security, intimidation,

And he did not call anybody Savages. These Jubilee zealots need to chill. Maybe smoke a little weed, it might help.
