World cup is not just about talent, it is also about preparation and this is where most african countries cannot hack it. I think Kenya is the only country in Africa, that can do kidogo better management of her sportsmen, despite last olympics being poorly coordinated.Tactical Awareness is in my opinion sometimes overexaggerated. What is important, is to have footballers, who are a bit intelligent and to have a good medical team and players have to feel, that their needs are well taken care of. Cameroun, Nigeria and Ghana have problems with the above highlighted problems
Where tactical awareness helps is when you can read what the opposition is doing and find ways to stop it. Or if you can study the other team's weakness and exploit it.
Tactical depth is important because if you are employing one set of tactics and it is not working, the coach should be able to seamlessly switch to a different system say by making substitutions or switching positions.
Germany is successful at almost every world cup precisely because of their ability to exploit the weakness of other teams. Once they find a weakness, they will bury you. Just ask Brazil how they conceded 7 goals.
These German players like Mueller and Miroslav Kloser are not individually brilliant. But its how they function as a team that makes them invincible.
