Interesting to note that it's only in the present and recent past that Nairobi has not had high capacity buses. Otherwise in the 60s, 80s, 90s Nairobi had mass transport buses. Then the companies collapsed and private investors went for 14 seaters and 33/51 seaters we have today.

Hehe....this is how we went to school.. How things have changed that such a scenario is inconceivable in present day Kenya. That today's society cannot allow such antics is a testament that we have developed as a country (or is it evolved?).

Is this bus really "new"?.
Kwanza the engine is Ashok, very Indian.

Seem like it was picked right from the garbage areas of Mumbai.

Will this hack it Kenia?

d'oh! d'oh! d'oh!

It's public transport for the masses. Were you expecting a Rolls Royce?

The bus looks very old, looks at the wheel areas and the window frames...complete wreck!

All the so called "new" vehicles being imported into kenya, including Range Rovers and Porsche Cayennes, are 8yrs old junk mitumbas whose owners have gotten tired of and disposed off. And the garbage is sent to poor counties like ours. Why complain when an equally old 8yr mtumba bus is imported? We are a mitumba nation. Except @DBK007.

With our current road, this is an articulated and veeeery looong matatu.
It wont reduce traffic even by a single inch!

The disorderly driver will just put his head on the bus-stop, leaving the tail on the road, and he stays there until the mat is full...

First, we need paradigm shift of our transport industry before we bring in these innovative buses...

From Kidero

"We shall start with Thika and Ngong road before we embark on Jogoo road all the way from Mama Lucy Hospital and Kangundo road,"

"We are building nine transport systems to accommodate the buses. We are carrying out a pilot operation to see how effective the system will be."

Last week, City Shuttle bus services ran a test drive of one of the mass transit buses on Mombasa Road, through the city centre and to the Kencom bus terminus.

It will carry 62 sitting and 70 standing passenger on every trip.
