@ash, we need the correct narrative to be told. I.e. 1) we now know what cord acronym stands for - coalition for riots and destruction. 2) the demonstrations are highly unpopular. Like in nairobi, a city of 3m residents, only 1-200 goons actually show up. The rest do not show up as they dont support. 3) The demonstrations are about formation of parallel govt or nusu mkate. That's why he doesn't want parliament to have any role. 4) lop would not mind if country burns, if this will assure him some mkate. That's why he would go on with riots even when govt has already accepeted calls for discussion. Otherwise what is Monday demo for now that govt has already accepted to talk about iebc????

RAO has never been interested in the talks, whether in or out of parliament.

The one time RAO eschewed confrontation (2013), he got nothing.

He's not willing to making the same mistake twice.

Raila expects a certain outcome from the talks, any other outcome is unacceptable, I just thinking if a truly fair election was held would he win?

Which specific talks?

He's unhappy with the IEBC, supreme court, police, etc.

We just witnessed Jubilee giving him the first inch.

This time hes the one who doesn't want fair election. He's got it all figured out...parties to appoint commissioners..so after election they can give 'insider' info how rigging was done ...presidential results to be announced at polling station...so cord goons can kick out police and observers in their strongholds and stuff boxes. Those are his fixed positions going into talks that's why he doesn't parliament to have any role..

I'm not saying this because I'm necessarily a Raila supporter, but it's possible that a constitutional path for example, can be limited by its own logic to the extent of ineffectiveness and that even a fourth arm of government may be necessary.

This guy always has to be in govt? In 97 it was kanu-ndp merger..where he went on to destroy KANU 4rom within. In 02 it was mou. In 07 it was nusu mkate. But in '13 we had passed new katiba akachanganyikiwa kidogo. But getting into '17 its now fourth arm of govt. History repeats itself. But this time I don't think he will make it

I don't see anything wrong with Raila trying to get to the presidency or into government the way he's tried to.

In fact, he may be offering us a glimpse that our political system maybe skewed against some people that odds are almost always against them no matter what they do, even when expecting otherwise is reasonable.

Considering that such a skew would be unreasonable, it may follow that the balance of power as we've known it isn't effective. Other forces may emerge and may need to be countered by creating new forms of balance.

What Raila is doing may not be unreasonable after all.

What!?, asking people to come out to demonstrate, or for that matter paying goons to come out to demonstrate, when you know very well they will loot, stone people, torch vehicles, attack police (who will in return fire to protect themselves), all in the name of creating disturbance so the govt can yield to your wily schemes so as to get to power, this is most unreasonable, even animals don't do that my dear friend

I don't subscribe, or rather I'm learning not to subscribe to the politics of fear which are not just responsible for looting and anarchy, but also to the clinging to power and lack of trust for other citizens.

If we can build better conceptual and implementation models for our politics and culture the better... But for now lets all accept responsibility for all this rot we're seeing and do something positive about it.
