From the incentives, it is more cost effective for an Emirates plane to fly back home than park at Heathrow or use a hangar there for example.
False re: Emirates flies back to Dubai rather than park in Heathrow. Who told you that? I am very curious. Please provide your source of information.

The second thing I'm wondering is, why would KQ want to go to the US?
Big market. Thousands of Kenyans/Africans there who return home using KLM, BA, LH. Then add the fact that the USA is Kenya's #3 tourist source market.
Does it make any sense cost-wise?
Yes, according to KQ. Why wouldn't it? Plus many might use KQ from the USA to NBO as a transit point to the final destination e.g. EBB, DSM, etc
Granted, the Kenyans there will use it but do they realise just how extremely competitive and expensive the US is?
So which is which? Competitive or Expensive? There are no direct USA-Kenya flights and very few USA-Africa flights
Do they realize how poor KQ is in service provision yet service is the only key to the US market?
Have you ever flown a US airline? KQ is far better.

@2012 US airlines are pathetic in terms of service. Most are consistently ranked by American consumers as among the most hated companies. Where they thrive on is pricing. They are relatively cheap, but you get what you pay for.

What should worry KQ (that seems to excite them) is direct flights to the US as this brings in another competitor, these cheap American Airlines. Unless KQ changes its pricing policy it will be unable to compete with them on the route and they may even cannibalise the business KQ gets through the sky alliance- where passengers book trips to/ from the US through the alliance members eg KLM and KQ transports them to/from Amsterdam or other European cities from/to Nairobi - for a slice of the fee.

Does anyone know what pricing formula our airlines use kq charging 16k one way to NB from MS the flight had 12 passengers, jambo at 12k half empty, most guys went to 540 at 7.5k

More doom for KQ
China Southern Airlines has launched a direct flight between Guanghzou and Nairobi 3 times a week.
The airline has ended the code sharing business it had with KQ for cargo business and will be doing this on its own.
Passenger business however still remains.
We all know the volume of cargo business Kenya does with china compared to passenger

Why do u need to buy that so many shares just to make ksh.24k.
There are other better counters that you will need to buy much fewer shares to make that amount of money

They could change the offer and go business. Say NB MBS two way something like 40K for those who have money and in that case provide world class service. There have been many companies moving towards that route. Of late is Air France which apart from the African market where it makes money (selling expensive tickets to Africans) its facing high competition from the gulf Airlines and so its trying to match the best Airline (business) Singapore Airlines but its still too far.
KQ can test such a thing in Africa and Kenya there are people who have money and are willing to spend a lot. I read that most companies make a lot from business class that Economy ! hope its true
