Now,ignorance is what ails this country of ours
@Novestar. Safcon have not laif any cable withing the country BUT KDN has connected their base station with their fiber in most parts of the country. secondly,Telkon has,and have had terrestial fiber for a couple of years now,in fact they were competing with KDN of whom shall get to Malaba firts in 2006. KDN did. Telkon has only done the back-bone stretch from msa to malaba & busia while KDN has stretched inwards to major towns in the country,
safaricom network is also voice specific, they are just venturing into data services for commercial diversification but priority will always be given to voice.

The only guys using poles for fiber are KPLC,yes they are doing fiber too.

And,Ak has also started digging fiber. The guys in yellow bibs around town and about are AK's

THE CABLE HAD TO BE SHIFTED BY 200 MILES FROM THE ORIGINAL ROUTE DUE TO THE THREAT POSSED BY THE SOMALI PIRATES. mind you it's yet to land.

When you have a base station network like Safaricom, you do not need to lay cable all over the country, you use your base station!!!All you need is a Safaricom modem or router and there, you have connectivity. Those of you familiar with going ons at Safaricom will understand why they acquired OneCom and also why they are pioneering in Wimax.

With Wimax, you have an integrated voice, data and internet corporate solution with absolutely no cabling!I work in a bank where voice is by Telkom,Internet by a funny ISP and data connectivity by KDN. Now imagine how each of these companies refuse to take responsibility when there is a failure......each blames the other and for sure at times its hard to know who is to blame.

Enter Wimax now,we have decided to go that way. We shall have voice, data connectivity and internet all by Safaricom thro OneCom engineering. Whats better is that all we need is a router in the bank and a GPRS radio receiver......no cables from outside or to our branches!

So those of you thinking Safcom has been shafted.....think again, they have shafted everyone else. All they need is to increase the traffic capacity their base stations can handle, which to me is the challenge.

Not in a bad way,but what bank do you work for? if as a bank you'll be going for safcon, then i need to get off your shareholder register, even if it means at the current 60% loss!
