If you compare to say India, where Mumbai to Goa is 7500 rupees return flight, the train costs between 3600 and 1600 return depending on the class.

4500 bob should be ok for return fare, but nonsense for one way.

Majority of Kenyans will stick to the buses and pay kina Chania express 800 bob or even lower in low peak like 400 bob.

Tell what they should charge, the loan has a period it has to be paid, sio open ended.

Is Chania 800 one way or return? If one way, I'd guess most people would prefer to use the train: faster, safer and more comfy.

Chania is 800 bob one way; which @wanjiku will opt to pay 4,500 bob one way?

On a train, there are diff classes of travel, usually. 4500 is first class, while 1600 maybe standard class. Dig?

I don’t see anything outrageous with that price. If you’ve been out of Kenyan borders says a place like Japan, you would notice that taking a Shikansen for a similar distance (NRB-MBS) will cost you an equivalent of about Ksh 7, 000 one way. Taking a flight will cost you a similar amount, and many people still prefer the train due to its reliability and numerous other positive attributes over other means. So got to pay slightly more for quality and convenience!

The class thing is ok, but what the Chinese say is that for the project to be profitable and that the loan is paid as per timelines then the minimum fair should be pegged at KES. 4,500; I see premium class middle class passengers paying kedo 12K!

Sad Sad
