One day in 2012/13, I was in the queue at Electricity House. the p[lace was crowded as usual. Then I saw a bag on the floor and immediately asked the people nearby if it was theirs. It wasn't.... and the casually told me "usijali, mwenyewe ata kuja kuitafuta"
So I pointed out to them that this is how al-shabab have been leaving bombs in crowded places.....
I called the security guard and asked him to raise the alarm in order to establish who the owner of the bag was. The guard was not sure if that was part of his duty...
By now there was some agitation in the queuing customers... so eventually, some guy who was about five place ahead of me in the queue came out and claimed ownership of the bag.
He made some comment to effect that he is not al-shabab to which I responded that we have no way of knowing!
What I found amazing was the looks that people gave me; they thought I was over-reacting even though this was a few weeks after one those bombs had exploded in Nairobi.
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.
