why not? We only see dry Turkana in our media and of late oil rigs. We think backward and hungry when turkana is mentioned. Wish I can get a link for the show. BTW, isn't desert tourism an alternative form that we should be pursuing? The neighbouring Marsabit county is home to Chalbi desert-a true desert!

Depending on where you come from you can try the Mt kenya circuit. Nyeri, Nanyuki/Laikipia, Meru, Isiolo got some lovely places to visit.

This is the road they normally air maize to dry.

The road sees an average of 10 cars in 24hrs...there is another one towards Kerio Valley.

Turkana was the first place I ever went on holiday, I have been hooked since. I still remember the moonlit nights from the Lake Turkana lodge. Those days it was unknown and we almost had the place to ourselves.

Looks nice. But why do many such places avoid putting accommodation/dining/tour prices on the website? However expensive it is, I think the pricing should be out there..

I wouldn't feel bad if i'm 'priced out.

Do they have biking trails? How safe is the road for bikers and hikers?

I would advise You not to go that direction of Arusha or Dar , some pals of mine had a nasty experience in that town when they were arrested as suspected robbers . Their crime was that they had money to spend and being December they were to showy for the locals liking. Kula raha yako hapa Kenya and uplift local economy.

mention of Turkana to you evokes images of skinny and dying livestock and begging old mamas!!!!Shame on you Shame on you Shame on you ...

Truth is,and for those who have been there,i would say it is one of the most memorable places i have ever visited.I have been there on two ocsasions using either Marsabit-Chalbi desert route and Kitale-Lodwar route.Sibiloi,Central islands, the pristine beaches of the "Jade sea"...It's relatively cheaper here but the experience is one of a life-time.I would strongly recommend.

Thenkiyu. Seems like a good plan. Best means to get there? Chopper? 4 * 4 WD ? Pollman? I would also like to know the rates.
