The foreign affairs cabinet secretary Amina Abdalla is born and bred in kakamega. Therefore kakamega is well represented in serikal.

I was born in Murang'a
So were my parents
But they moved to Kiambu in 1970
I left Kiambu as a teenager to go to University
Then worked an lived in Nakuru for 12 years
Finally moved to Nairobi 12 years ago
My kids were born in Kiambu and Nairobi

Two questions:

[1] What is my home district/county?
[2] What is the home district / county of my kids?

Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

BTW: My great-great grandparents were born in Nyeri then moved to Murang'a and settled there

Home district should be where most of your ancestors were born, grew up in and buried...

The political importance (sic) of this is in the determination of allocation of the "national cake" such as county jobs. Look at the adverts for these jobs and the shortlists and see how this is used (or abused). No matter how long you and your generations have lived in a county or the value and amount of investment, your roots are considered as the ethnic roots.

Like other Bant-Speaking people, most of my ancestors were born and lived somewhere in the Congo forest!

Or is there a limit as to how far back one should
into the ancestral history? If so, how many generations should one go?

Secondly; looking at my recent ancestry given above, what would you say is my home district/county?

Your home district/county is Kiambu.

The home district/country for your children is Nairobi.

I phrase the question like so; in the first 18 years of your life, what was your parent's and your permanent physical residence?
Set out to correct the world's wrongs and you will most certainly wind up adding to them.

Your home district is then one that appears on your birth certificate/ID/passport.

NB: you use your birth certificate to get your ID and passport.
