It is sad to see how warped our world view has become: some one wins a Marathon contest and all we can see is the money she will be paid; not the achievement she has made.

Let me make it more warped...Is she single?

We see all those things Professor Mukiha...Money is part of the achievement.

In fact all those big achievements always come with a money price tag, eg Nobel prize, Mo Ibrahim

But it's the FOCUS. When Wangare Maathai was planting trees, she wasn't thinking about the possibility of getting Sh100m from a Nobel Prize. All she wanted was to protect the environment so that future generations can't live a better life.

Then some one notice her EFFORT and what she had ACHIEVED and decided that she needs RECOGNITION.

BTW: Nobel prizes are NOT contested for! People are proposed/nominated and then a selection is done. Sio kama TPF!
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Now for athletics its slightly different. Majority, if not all, actually run for money.

Warped how?

Sasa how does running the distance faster than anyone else in the world add any real VALUE to the world?

Hakuna achievement hapa.

The only achievers in Kenya ni waalimu, madaktari and small business hustlers.. na pia wale kama wangari mathai kujitolea ku make difference ... kama John Michuki(RIP or is it PBUH)

Wengine wote ni tenderpreneurs, NGO appearances keepers, and corporate minions.

Her running style has become the talk of the internet. Its amazing that someone with such poor form can be such a good marathoner. She is on her way to becoming the Kenyan GOAT.

She has had a wonderful season the highlight being defeating dibaba and defar in a race where she was hardly mentioned The organisers of the event were shocked as they had sold the event as a battle between defar and dibaba. As for GOAT mary keitany still ranks up there 3rd fastest in the marathon ,half marathon world record holder among other accolades . A meeting of the two next year will be very interesting keitany has a smooth running style while jeptoo knocked knees hope it will be in london where both have won.

Even with the knocked knees and flailing legs it was fun watching her hunting down the Ethiopian girls and overtaking them one by one.
