Moi,...systematically crushed nascent and thriving cash crop farming and dairy sectors, rendered institutions toothless while cronies bankrupted parastatals, he institutionalized corruption...all in a bid to weaken political rivals, hang on to power. Journos like to call this political chess mastery. Thats crap. Its the ordinary peasants who got caught in the steel trap, hunger and disease encroaching, destitution everywhere. It surrounded me while growing up and I for one will never forget it. This wisdom people say Moi has? I fail to see it. If he is 90 now it means he was 56 when he became president,...a great enough age to have the wisdom to know it is unforgivable to rob ordinary people of their livelihood in the name of political survival. Happy birthday Mr Moi. May God forgive you. I am unable to.

HBD mzee moi! I blame you, you are the single reason we are what we are now. You ruined our economy and considering no african economy really grew during that period - you must have been president all over. you must have been president in the whole of africa when this was written global politics, the cold war, the end of the cold war had nothing to do with our woes. it was simply you and your cronies looting this country. you really never played a part in ensuring that we had a stable education system that is currently churning out graduates. everyone that is doing anything close to useful must have been born and raised abroad! I blame you for everything wrong that happend to this country. All Mushrooms are edible! Some Mushroom are only edible ONCE!

Can we focus on the positive side of Toro, people have a lot of negative energies. We should be thankful to Toro for the following 1.Girl child education 2.Peace , SECURITY and stability 3.Managing negative ethnicity If Obiero did it, Who Am I?

To me the most important ones were the PEACE and STABILITY as mentioned above. Other African countries were dropping dead like flies, that is why even after the 24yr Error, Kenya still stood "towering" above many fellow african dwarfs. Let us not Forget what happened in Ethiopia, Somalia, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC, South Sudan to mention but a few during his time, and he shielded us from all that turmoil. I want to strongly agree with mathukuma that Moi's time concided with the LOST age of Africa. 5. Built Ndakaini Dam, a most critical piece of infrastructure today! 6. Built Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani TULIA.........UFUNZWE!

with hindsight I think Moi was an opportune leader for that period of time. He had his faults but he did more good than we would care to remember. The reason kenya is boasting of great human resource is because of Moi... most of these people schooled during moi's time... people who have not seen what war can do to a generation have no appreciation for the price of peace. the price of stability... the price of continuity. that a child knows for sure that today I am in std 1 and next year I will be in std 2 if I work hard (based on themselves). When you witness what elongated conflict does to people like Afghanistan (30 years of conflict) - you appreciate Moi. statistics that say that 90% of the population can not read when Kenya boasts as being no. 4 in Africa after Zim, Equatorial guinea and SA with 85% of her population knowing how to read and write. way ahead of Mauritius, Tunisia, Morroco, Ghana and even Naija it's not because of anyone else but BABA MOI! All Mushrooms are edible! Some Mushroom are only edible ONCE!

Moi did what he could; squandered the best opportunity a Kenyan President had, ever will, to make the most of their time in power, 24 years. Peace and stability aren't things we should thank him for, we should thank Kenyan citizens for that we kept calm and bid our time as pissed as people would get they didn't lose their heads. If you stay ready, no need to get ready.
