This morning driving through town I just came across Gilgil IDPs demonstrating along Harrambee Avenue, baying for the governments land through the placards they were carrying and singing imba iyaya.........has it become biashara or are there genuine IDPs yet to be settled?

Six years down the red line, we still have IDPs. The issue has become a cash cow for the government. Every year billions of taxpayers' money is allocated for the resettlement of IDPs. But the money hardly reaches the beneficiaries.

Quote:
NAIVASHA, KENYA: It was song and dance in five IDP camps in Mai Mahiu Naivasha after the government embarked on a Sh3.3 billion programme to resettle them by the end of this month. The exercise is expected to be flagged off by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday in Mai Mahiu Naivasha which is home to hundreds of IDPs. Addressing the IDPs, the Principal secretary in the ministry of devolution Gideon Konchellah said all the profiled families would get Sh400,000. Konchellah said that over 8,200 IDPs and forest evictees would benefit from the funds and challenged them to use the cash wisely. .

Over sh.10B have been spent to resettle IDPs. If each family was to be given sh.500,000 then we could have resettled 20,000 families!
