Can Kibaki break a man that Moi found hard to crack?
The nyayo goons attacked his milk processing plant in Kerwa-Kikuyu and teamed up with one Mr.Ndungu to bring about the Pattni saga which resulted in total collapse of his Thugi River flower farms.
Now the Central old school have bought his house ostensibly to bring to him to his knees.
But this guy is one tough jerk and this storm will pass.
......the truth shall set you free.

I have my differences of opinion with Muite but on this one I was sad for him and his family. Losing such a home and especially so at his age is tragic and can be a dangerously stressful. He tried to put on a brave face but it is tough, maybe mildly emasculating, for a man.
Could this be his only residential property? Trying to negotiate with (or force?) the new owner to accept him as a tenant seemed desperate. Granted it was worth a hefty chunk. I hope he has a 'fallback' home.
But despite all this,I do not see politicians pulling the strings on this. Double standards maybe but not overt political pressure.
By double standards I mean NBK are aggressively pursuing the guys whose political clout has diminished while bidding their time on the ones that can still make alot of powerful noise (thru' the powers that be) if you try and touch them. That may be the strategy they have adopted. I think it is something NBK has to live with until all the political loans of yesteryears are sorted out.
In addition,I do not completely buy Muite's claim that he offered them KES 150M and they refused and accepted a lower offer. I would rather believe the bank than a politician unless proven otherwise. First of all,it would be foolhardy for a bank to pull such a stunt on a politician. Obviously the guy will make a lot of noise. Why risk your business worth billions on a crooked deal worth millions? Doesn't make sense and I am sure the MD and Board have followed this issue closely.
Secondly, once you default, the disposal of the asset is at the Bank's discretion. Strictly speaking, you have effectively lost the right to the property. Any concessions by the bank is largely goodwill.
In any case, there are many gaps in that statement. When was the offer done if ever? (before or after the property was sold) Was it in cash or by installments? Had he done so before i.e. had he numerously promised to pay the full amount in cash over the 15-20 years the loan has been in arrears? What has his relationship been with the bank? (Bankers are people. Assume a hostile, haughty or dodgy stance when you default and you are likely to face harder times). Hopefully, one can get answers to these and many other questions from an independent party.
It would be interesting to have heard NBK's side of the story. However, any smart business person will,as much as possible, try and avoid engaging a politican in a mud-slinging media campaign.
Remember, politicians do not mind getting dirty while banks usually do.

@Chaka The worst thing you can do is bail a politician out financially. One of my good friend was a first timer mpig in the last parliament. He lost his seat in the last elections. With all the money he was getting he lost it all and the properties he had before are now held by banks and shylock. His Prado was sold soon after elections. In other words he's now worse than he was and the one thing he doesn't regret is losing his seat because debt according to him accumulates everyday with juicy offers from banks etc. Maisha mbaya!

Crocodile tears. Ama anataka tumfanyie harambee?? Or he thinks he is very special. Sure was looking for media sympathy now that he's their lawyer but the first family had nothing to do with it. If i remember correctly, this started a while back before kibs took over. And that's not all,he's even defrauded locals thru shoddy schemes. Talk of petty politics.
Life is too short.

Didnt Kibs state clearly that he would deal with Kibugi thoroughly either in court or elsewhere?......politico scores are being settled like in a Nigerian movie. I pity our learned friend It's not where yu are,but where yu want to be. Age is transforming me into an Elder;becoz Admin hasn't made me one.

Muite should deal with the issues that confront him squarely and stop playing cry baby. Those reading too much into the affair need to say where the foul play is. Did Muite take the loan? Did he default repaying. Was the house cited and taken in as collateral,- to be auctioned in the event of default. Was the house sold to an independed/third party. Is this other party obligated to host Muite in their house? Sometimes we go overboard in seeing dark shadows waiting to ambush. A writer once opined that Kenya is a country where rumours pop up every so often and spread as wildfires. Things arent always the way they look like Isuni yilu yi maa me muyo - ni Mbisuu

@mwenza Imagine si kwa ubawa but if wisdom prevails I would not want my wife to bail me out if what my pal was telling me is how it is for mpigs. Where and how do you lose 150m? I'd understand if it's a business deal gone bad but campaign,no way! Even your salary in 2 terms assuming you don't touch the cash cannot repay that loan. If your wife bails you, you'll have a very broke family soon...

In the late 80s,Paul was in the then regime's good books which saw him being allocated pieces of land and other goodies that were doled out to cronies. Thugi river farm measuring about 334 acres was one of them. Then, the regime could arrange loans with politically correct FIs for the likes of Muite and one such facility was extended to Kibugi to grow flowers and to do all matters horticultural. The regime was also known to make such facilities disappear so long as one played ball. Paul unfortunately joined some bunch of energized and perhaps a little disillusioned Kenyans who were clamouring for change and the repealing of some section in the Constitution in early 90s. Long story short,Muite was too busy for any commercial undertaking which could have helped meet his financial obligations. He however never missed an opportunity to block the FIs from obtaining their dues, mostly in court where he has quite a reputation. As is true for most, when the flair fades and options are exhausted,Mr Paul has had to bite the dust. With Thugi gone, the only other leverage was the matrimonial home. All these antics even with the first family must have been kicks of a dying horse. I feel for his family which has now been thrust into the limelight for all the wrong reasons. Like the proverbial phoenix,I can only hope that Kibugi son of Muite will rise again. Good luck to him. Patience Pays in Guaranteed Checks Patience Pays In Guaranteed Checks.

Faking mate! But Ochuodho's knowledge on governance infrastructure policy formulation and implementation riding on ICT is well documented in both Rwanda and SS over the last 7-10 years. has talent that needs to be exploited locally, but then again not from the right ................
