Mapozi, Some of the complaints that bosses usually have are;

(i) Non-escalation of issues arising during your day to day work. That includes challenges. Escalation keeps the boss in the loop so (s)he finds a way to manage his boss' expectations and also to develop strategies on how to protect the people who report to him/her.

(2) Persistent missing of deadlines. Deadlines are a simplified communication of what your boss expects. You can miss one but you better tell your boss in advance that you will miss it and why you will miss it. Too many missed deadlines and you are in problems.

(4) Fear of constructive criticism. Your boss will expect you to listen to criticism, learn and employ the learning points in future assignments.

... suck at your job? Wait a minute, if you're making mandazi and you suck at it then thats understandable otherwise from what I know no one suck at their job, they could be slow or late and thats common for manual jobs but for something you use your brain? If you suck at it, you either didn't take required training or you have a fundamental problem e.g you're valueing derivatives when you only went to school to be an english teacher, otherwise no one I have worked with suck at what they do, you find one person better than the other but non suck! Help me understand!

If you sucked at your job you'd know without being told. Do you struggle more than others to get things done? Are you passionate? Would you do it without a pay?

You see, you could be in the wrong career so it would be good if you start looking for what you're passionate doing as everyone has something they are very very good at. Keep looking as this 8-4-4 taught us to do everything hence nothing.

Some bosses are mentors while some are just a pain in the... Your boss might be the former. He might just have seen a diamond in the rough and he wants to refine it and you are busy trying to quit!

I got a boss who keeps throwing every other assignment at me. Wondered what's up with him coz even the other colleagues noted so. One day, over a beer he told me he was actually grooming me as an exit strategy for him, succession plan he called it. That is the time everything seemed to fall in place.
