@Lolest. What exactly happened to Metro. Been checking on them and finding funny music, though I had seen the ads in the press which I didnt quite understand.

Mutated to Venus FM. For airports only.

When you think about it, their overheads must be really low. After all, they don't have to pay 6-figure salaries to presenters whose job is to interrupt the music with their annoying noise!

Adverts are bearable; but if they bring in the presenters, you can be sure I will stop tuning in. They will have short themselves in the foot!

@Mukhiha ... i thought X-FM started in a similar passion and when they introduced the presenters, nothing changed, they actually got more listeners...

Was Metro the one that used to play McDoba only?

'Hard to say goodbye to Metro'. Could it have been because of revenues? Guess so as there were apparently very few advertisers with them which I would relate to their marketing sloppiness as opposed to a lack of potential- Reggae has one hell of massive fellowship.
Talking of Ghetto Radio..........Tuff choice.... Great music but Kelele mingi sana. Almost unbearable..

And how are their financials compared to, say, KISS or CLASSIC or CAPITAL?

My thinking would be that the FM radio market is overcrowded and to survive, one has to carve out a niche... small but clearly defined and loyal audience. That way you can charge the moon for ads without spending too much on attracting the audience.

I was once a consultant for a business magazine that had a monthly circulation of about 1,000 copies, but their ad rates were higher than the Daily Nation (250,000 copies)... and advertisers used to book many months in advance, just to secure space!
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

I got hooked an year+ ago & its been a great listen, actually when I discovered it didn't have a name, just music....music. (send me ua wish list & I can get it played)
Unconfirmed word is that RA wants to turn it to greekFM hosted by one gathoni wa mucomba!

For venusFM...am still trying to find my way in there, no comments.

There's bonoko & bonokonde hosts @ghettoFM-very funny characters though in a whole hour of sheng' u only understand about 15minutes, the rest remains ghettoish
