@bwenyenye, I dnt get ua line of argument. Are u implying the docs should buy the eqpt b4 they qualify for a payrise; or the docs dont deserve a payrise coz eqpt is obsolete??? Pole sana Kamundu, Im with u guys. With a fool like Nyangau for a minister, I can only pray for Kenya. Dont relent, dont get hoodwinked with cosmetic solutions. The more the reason I tell Mutunga that Bashir is none of our f***ing business, we should be busy hanging some guys locally, daily. TULIA.........UFUNZWE!

bwenyenye wrote:@Kamundu, you representations are all good to logic. But the more the strike progresses, the more we realize that all those stories of better facilities are hogwash. You guys are simply interested in more money and not better services to Kenyans. Period. That is why many of us will not support you on this one. Even if you got 700% increase but still no microscopy lab, how does that benefit ME? However, if you got that Microscopy lab, you as doc, when sick, will not need to pay 10 times more for the procedure at Nbi Hospital.
I dare say to you and all docs, More pay is NOT the solution to your problems. Better facilities and management are. Then you may not even need all that money you are asking for. Actually, you are losing more respect from the public as you strike!!! You guys are smart and could handle this better. I AGREE WITH YOU, BWENYENYE-you doctors are smart and could handle this better; better than the 13point document you presented to the ministry more than a year ago, where pay increment is actually number 10 on the grievances, maybe you should have bought the 'microscopes and the other things you are demanding from the government to avail to the hospitals from your pockets, maybe you should have hired more staff from your pockets so that you will not have to attend to patients for as long as 24-36 straight hours, maybe you should have equipped the laboratories, the x-ray departments etc etc from your pockets so that you don't need to send poor patients outside public hospitals for these services....the list is long, things you should have done from your pockets before demanding for better facilities, more staff and better pay from the tax collector. WITH INTELLIGENT REASONING LIKE THIS, WHO CAN DISAGREE WITH BWENYENYE, DIN'T WE ALL SEE HOW THE Ass MINISTER INTELLIGENTLY HANDLED THE ISSUE IN PARLIAMENT TODAY, AND I QUOTE HIM-'THOSE DYING ARE DYING FROM NORMAL DISEASES'-VERY INTELLIGENT!!

This is a NATIONAL crisis wapi prezzo and pm??? wapi nyongo and mugo??? Nonsense. Can this GOK get its head out of the sand and start dealing with the problem? Or are the waiting for the private doctors nto join the strike? The kawaida mwananchi is suffering more than they normally do. And it is up to the GOK to take the docs more seriously and end this

@bwenyenye spot on. Most of the drs who quit are pararell since due to their backgrounds cannot stomach working in the bunduz. In any case does this mean the ones remaining are the ones who cant get absorbed in private sector. Let the govt call their bluff and see....ati resign enmasse..paleeeze I may be wrong..but then I could be right

Let the govt call their bluff and see....ati resign enmasse..paleeeze Poorly-thought and unfortunate comment. Shame. Generalisations are a crass attempt at argument. I know of many "regular" doctors who have quit government jobs and have proceeded to go work abroad. By private sector you mean Aga Khan, Nairobi, AAR, Avenue, Nairobi West, Nairobi Women's, Getrudes, MP Shah and so on? The remuneration and working conditions in these organisations are not any better. Healthcare in Kenya needs a revolution. And it should start with giving adequate pay to the doctors to whom Kenyans place huge responsibilities on their mental and physical well-being. Set out to correct the world's wrongs and you will most certainly wind up adding to them.

I do not know if they represent common Mwananinchi or just personal gain.....all i know is that there was a dark and extra low moment when these guys- the top cream of the country,as in grey matter wise ( ok,some of them) vunjad that gate. That move was very 'Sonko-like',If you have been wondering why Sonko is a member of parliament, wonder no more.

Doctors need to appreciate the fact that the political and administrative system in Kenya has failed, and consequently, not even a strike will resolve matters.
Perhaps the way forward is to champion for the privatisation of all health institutions and pushing the government to specialize on subsidizing patients costs, and to seek citizen support by stimulating enterpreneurship and identifying with new and progressive leaders.
I guess this would mean 'guerilla' tactics and greater commitment to political dialogue, but then they have to make some sacrifices. After all, don't they form the cream of our society? They should start the construction of a new system.
