But when these thugs know this, they'll be looking for the serial no too This works but it's gross abuse of privacy rights by GOK!! It's time we got a Data Protection law for the protection of personal data collected by banks, supermarkets, GoK, credit reference bureaus and anyone else who asks you for personal data on application forms, purchase documents et al @Mpenzi; I think you are being overly paranoid. The system only gives name and registration centre. Nothing else. What do you say about the telephone directory that gives peoples names, tel numbers and postal addresses? Are they also abusing privacy? Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 14 – The government has announced plans to register all Kenyans afresh in a new national digital database. Deputy President William Ruto says the new measures are aimed at enhancing security and for purposes of planning. “In order to address the prevailing security challenges, we intend to consolidate all current registers of persons into a single national register with accurate and relevant information,” said Ruto. The database will contain biometric details of all persons, land, establishments and assets.Rink iko capitalfm enda' Very intersting "There are only two emotions in the market, hope & fear. OK. Given a timeline of 6 months and previous experience with the BvR kits by IEBC staff, I have faith in Isaak Hassan and his team. The IEBC is the only institution we can rely on to independently ensure the sanctity of the data collected in the first instance not corrupt Immigration or Birth/Death registration officers who are largely responsible for the mess in the first place. This is a system requiring 24/7 availability. With the kind of Executive goodwill this project carries from the onset, I think the GoK will experience challenges but will eventually succeed in getting it running.

Very intersting This Will be very interesting but I wish it would have been more of something similar to the social number in the US. It would have really helped especially in the health sector. update president set president = speaker where president is null

This is a welcome move and can go a long way to be used even by other sectors of the economy to avoid fraudulent transactions. But my worry is how will it be managed? Will the illegal immigrant be given a chance to register n thus become legally recognized citizens? Will having the current ID be a prerequisite for being registered and will there be a way of confirming it in the existing data base? I also heard it will be done by IEBC so that they don't need to register people afresh during elections or something like that. How will that be managed so that we don't have a case of "cooked" register in favor of certain candidates/regions?

This is very private information. Adequate restrictions to this data access is necessary e.g. in light of kidnappings carried out by rogue officers colluding with bank tellers. I'd hate to now have corrupt GoK adding to the mix. KRA may be the biggest beneficiary of this.

If anything the govt has this info already, believe me you wouldnt want the govt not to know that you own land somewhere. "There are only two emotions in the market, hope & fear. SGR appears shaky. LAPSSET seems dead on deathbead. Laptops still seem far aways. A stadium per county, dead. Microchipping cows to deter rustling, dead. Now we are into biometric IDs that will cost 8B Kes, this is not a priority for Kenya at the moment, we need to fight corruption even if means using 100B Kes, the fruits will be felt so soon!!!! ..."Wewe ni mtu mdogo sana....na mwenye amekuandika pia ni mtu mdogo sana!".

Kenyans just need reassurances on confidentiality of the data. You do not want the typical hungry/broke and idle GoK employee accessing/fiddling with this data. IEBC would work well for collection whilst KRA HQ would make a good custodian
