It's time for people to embrace logic and common sense and see that religion is silly. Religion has caused more death and peril than diseases and accidents combined. It's really silly people fighting over imaginary gods. What a pity. Us atheists are the most peaceful people in the world because we don't have a chip on our shoulder or a make believe god who we put our whole lives on. Surely, isn't it time for reason and rationale to prevail? These so called gods that religions fight over, lol, how weak minded do you have to be to kill over some figment of your imagination that was indoctrinated into you when you were a kid? You guys are just a product of your environment. You are Christian because you were born into a Christian family and Muslim because of the same. It's common sense. I feel sorry for religious people. Fighting over nothing. It's very unfortunate that us atheists are caught in the middle of your bombs and grenades. If i had my way i would form an atheist nation where we would sit back and laugh all day everyday as you guys wipe each other off the face of the earth. It's very sad to see people who go their whole lives waiting for an imaginary god to bless them instead of using their heads to get what they want in life. It's actually very unfortunate. I keep hearing my religious friends telling me that they are waiting for god's favor or god's blessing and i think to myself, just how clueless can one be to essentially willfully stop thinking and live on delusional promises from a non existent god? it's very mind boggling to see an otherwise educated person being so gullible. Keep waiting for blessings and favors religious people. You will be waiting a long time. Just hope some other religious nutcase does not blow you up in church or at the mosque while you listen to the businessman cum entertainer cum conman also known as a pastor on Sunday. No wonder Africa with a 90% religious population is poverty stricken and poor while Scandinavian countries with about a 30% religious population are the richest and most happy places to live in. Reason is because those people use their heads to navigate through life and don't wait for an imaginary god to sort out their issues. If you people can't see the correlation between religion, gods and poverty then i feel sorry for you. I just hope i can go about my business without your stupid religions threatening my life. A life without religion would be bliss. At least for me. Shit, i can't even shop in a supermarket anymore without looking over my shoulder. Just because some idiots want to prove that their delusions are bigger than the others'? What the f*** man.

welcome back @ham. I've always admired the way you articulate your standpoint. I have to admit- inspite of my many years of spiritual grounding in the church- that you are spot on this time around. Killing in the name of religion is simply sickening.

But u r wrong on one thing; hope is the one commodity that is in very high demand in africa. To borrow from John Ruganda's play, the burdens, "to make the present tolerable and the future worth waiting for". The only guys who have figured a way of packaging and selling hope are in the church and they've made a fortune while at it.

He is still out there? Why isn't he in police custody right now? If Kenya was a normal country if imagine the security people would be monitoring his speeches and whereabouts but we know things don't happen like that. Maybe he has bribed a few people.

Hahaha Hamburglar, I feel you on the last sentence but unfortunately you are comparing apples with oranges. You are implying that religious folk are violent while atheists are peace loving, all I can say is uhm Jeffrey Dahmer? Pol Pot? I think we had this discussion before. A quick google search gave me this
http://listverse.com/201...ive-atheism-a-bad-name/
The business man cum scammer aka pastor, could very well be an atheist a la Jim Jones!

Hello Nabwire. How goes it? Looks like we have met again after a while. Hehehe. Nabwire, you can't say that the atrocities that were commited by guys like Pol Pot and the like were a result of atheism. Those acts were motivated by different reasons. Those guys were mostly doing this to seek power. Atheism had nothing to do with their killings. The difference is that the religious people killing each other are specifically doing it in the name of religion and gods. Have you ever heard of or read anywhere ghat atheists had bombed a church or killed a muslim cleric or invaded a mall? never. We are too smart for such nonsense. The motivation by Pol Pot to do what he did was very different from the motivation by Osama. That's the quintessential apples and oranges scenario. Two completely different scenarios, both initiated by evil people but for different reasons. The reasons here being power and religion respectively.

As for Jeffrey Dahmer, you and i both know that that was a sick man. Once again, his sick actions were not a result of his alleged atheism, that was a sick person doing sick things. He should have been in a mental institution had his condition been diagnosed earlier. Rafael Ramirez, Ted Bundy, John Allen Muhammed (DC Sniper), Gary Ridgeway (Green River Killer) etc are all prolific serial killers and were all religious people, both Christian and Muslim. But the killings that they did were not in the name of religion, these people, just like Jeffrey Dahmer were just sick demented human beings. So, you are actually the one that mixing apples and oranges Nabwire. You are trying to associate mental sickness atrocities with religious killings. Those two are mutually exclusive.

Atheists, me being one, don't really care about whose god is bigger than the other and whose faith is more righteous and all the other nonsense propagated in the name of religion, all we care about is a peaceful world and people being happy. Atheists just want to see people getting along and making this world a better place to live in. You would be surprised at just how kind hearted and good natured atheists are, because we don't have a chip on our shoulders and we don't have anything to prove about a god. All we care about is mankind. We employ logic in everything we do and logic tells us that fighting over imaginary gods is silly when we could actually channel all that energy into a lot of other productive things in life.

There are kids starving to death everyday, can religious people make it a priority to help that dire situation instead of the back and forth killings they engage in everyday...which to be honest really just adds up to being a pissing contest. There is never a winner when religions kill and maim each other. Everybody loses. Maybe it's time we really took an in depth look at the reason for turmoil on this earth. Without a doubt, Religion is at the top of the list. If that's not evidence enough, then i Don't know what is. Say, Even if these gods really existed, wouldn't they at least intervene at some point and bring some sense of sanity into this world? what exactly are they doing that's keeping them so busy that they don't have time to save two year olds at Westgate from being massacred? Are Allah and Yahweh really that busy or are they just really indifferent and could care less about their children killing each other? if i was this so called god guy, there is no way i would had let what went down at Westgate happen. I would had come down from heaven or wherever this god is and made sure that these terrorists hurt nobody. Maybe these gods just don't care or maybe, just maybe, they don't exist. Food for thought. But people are too weak minded and too scared to use logic and start questioning these so called gods existence. Fortunately for me, i am not afraid to question things that don't make sense to me and yes, gods don't make any sense to me. I actually have gods filed under delusional thinking.

Anyway, It's Sunday morning, instead of me going to church to give my money to a pastor driving a range rover while his sheep can't even afford lunch today, i will be in Kibera with my peace corps atheist buddies buying food for the needy. But that's just me and how i see the world, i respect the faxt that everybody is entitled to their own opinion and their own perspectives in life. I just hope that someday, people will wake up and smell the coffee. I know we will meet again Nabwire, i always enjoy reading your posts. :)

Seems like you are making a lot of excuses for atheists but none for the religious folk. You skirted around Jim Jones, he was an atheist who became a preacher to bring the church members into atheism, and what did he do? He ordered them to drink some purple juice that will get them to heaven, SMH! Or are you going to claim mental illness for him too? I can also claim mental illness for these AlShabab clowns, and by the way they said Westgate was a terror act, not religious as you are painting it. To be honest, I think you do have a chip on your shoulder, you just don't know it. And that chip is religion, you are probably atheist because you are rebelling against religion, not because you espouse what atheism is about. And what is this talk about we atheists are loving, and give to mankind etc etc. You are using group think here and generalizing all atheists, this would mean that there is some kind of atheist temple that you all meet in, and are all given instructions on how to go about life. That's the only way you'd be able to say that you are all mankind loving, assuming that you all follow what you are told. In that case then you all have a religion too, its the religion of atheism!! I commend you though on taking initiative and going to Kibera, instead of giving the sadaka so that the pastor can buy another Range Rover!

Are they usually tired of their wives or what?

This isn't just about religion. It's about politics hiding behind religion. Or us expecting politics not to influence religion and vice versa.

In this case we'd do well to address the political dimension of terrorism, rather than engage in destroying what is sacred- the Islamic faith.

Even in our speech, and thought let's engage everyone with love and empathy.

The most sensible post so far.Applause
Thank you @tycho
