*Please fuel up at KenolKobil. KQ to pay cash. Thank You. Come Again.* KQ sells its prime London airport landing slots http://www.businessdaily...0/-/ggjp4h/-/index.html
As much as it makes sense to dispose of 'underutilized' assets isn't this an asset that is underutilized coz of poor management (marketing) decisions rather than decline in demand? With the number of [East & Central] Africans & Brits [& Europeans/Americans] who visit or [transit through] London, KQ could be running 2 flights/day on this route. So many folks I know prefer using QR, ET, TK or EK thanks to the huge savings [even if the flight is longer] from Nairobi to London. Anyway, good luck to KQ. As a KK shareholder, I'd like to see KQ start buying lots of fuel [on cash terms] from KK. As an Unga shareholder, I'd like to see NAS/KQ buy Ennsvalley breads/pies. As a TPSEA shareholder, I'd like to see KQ bring more tourists to KE/TZ/UG. As a KenRe shareholder, I'd like to see more insurance policies sold to their staff and insurance for their vehicles. Not to forget the money KQ owes KE banks. Those NPLs need to be reversed ASAP. Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett

Kenya Airways (KQ) has sold its morning slot at London’s Heathrow Airport for KES 7.5 BN to Oman Air. This is in addition to the evening slot it sold to Emirates Airways for KES 15 - 25 MN making a total deal value of USD 90 - 100 MN. KQ’s sale of its coveted 5:30am slot is the highest priced slot deal to have taken place at Heathrow. The airline is estimated to have earned KSH 3.0 BN from the deal that is expected to go towards offsetting of the company’s debt. Kenya Airways currently departs for Heathrow in the morning and returns about two hours after Heathrow arrival to minimize parking costs. It is unclear whether the KES 3.0 BN raised from the sale is enough to cover the possible loss of business travelers who prefer leaving Kenya in the evening in order to arrive in London in the morning

Good move. Instead of selling seats in an aircraft which takes fuel , salaries, insurance etc. best to sell air.
I think there some innovative guys in the management now

That is a mafioso like firm with massive big brother subsidy. In other news, the sale of the Heathrow slot is a midas touch by Ngunze. Why would the planes sit at the airport for over 14 hours. Sweating the assets is the only way forward. The hogwash on lost tourism opportunities is a fallacy. Business travellers are the only real losers here and we all know they can afford a night in London, so they wont really cry over this.. Long live Ngunze KQ ABP 4.26

"Business Travelers" can afford to spend the night in London because they love traveling during the day instead of working at the office. What a brilliant move by KQ. These naysayers like @VVS are wrong. He is bitter he sold out at 14/- and bought KenolKobil. Where's the glamour? What a bull-headed short-term move to sell KQ. He should have bought more at 13. And even more at 12. Kept on adding at 11. So what if there was a loss. Shit happens. The CEO left with a hefty package he deserved while leaving a competent CFO in place. Warren Buffett would have snapped up the CFO. @VVS should have scooped up KQ at 10 rather than that useless share called KenolKobil that didn't even move at 9 while KQ moved from 9 to 8. Then to clean out the books, another loss. Even the chairman left, but progress continued as it went to 7. Ask @VVS, if there was any excitement at KK? A small dividend, profitability restored but NO price movement! And still pumping petrol and diesel. Excitement galore at KQ. 6/- and another loss. Then announcements to sell planes and land. More excitement when another loss was announced. The CFO left. A pity coz he was very good at his job. Warren Buffett will snap him up. Then 5/- and KQ was headed to 4/-. See what excitement @VVS missed out on? Poor guy got a hard-on when KK moved from 8 to 9 to 10... The likes of @VVS are just party-poopers who can't afford to spend a night in London. Anyway, he probably flies economy, if he flies at all, seeing he doesn't have access to Ngunze and is just jealous. Even JamboJet is too luxurious for him. Keep up the good work. After all, when was the last time you flew Biz Class? Join @VVS so that we too may fly Business Class compliments of the House. KQ will even provide Wet Ones to wipe off the brown stain on our noses.
