Now this is what we call taking us backwards. WHere was this guy during the conception of the SGR project? Where was he when feasibility was being done? Why bring this up right now when commencement of the project is underway? Bure kabisa.

@Jus Blazin, most analysts are like morticians-they come after the fact is known just to declare the obvious- the person is dead!

Big infrastructure projects at times are done not because the cents add up but for national pride in like hata sisi tuko na reli.

That guy doesn't make much sense. Lamu Thika route via Nanyuki? He should also tell us how many billions will be required to do the Lamu port to handle sufficient cargo to make the SGR "profitable". 500b perhaps? And how much will it take to upgrade the winding snaking Thika Nanyuki rail? And how much to do the Lamu Thika section?

We shouldn't do our rail because Tz n Ethiopia are doing theirs, since cargo volumes will go down? Doesn't he realize if we don't do it then most of the cargo will be gone for good? And that we shall lose most of our cargo handling business at the port of MSA? The SGR will protect the port of MSA in the face of stiff competition from our overambitious neighbours, viability n profits notwithstanding

I don't think Ndii put much thought to the article. There is a lot more to the rail than mere daily or monthly returns/profits, and his alternative route is fat more expensive IMO.

By all standards the rail project should go ahead, my problem is the shadowy figures/dealings that we are putting under the carpet!!
