Now Senate has recommended a rights issue, but who will buy?? This is disaster for KQ share price, government should just bite the bullet and write a cheque for KES 70B

That cheque...smh...will just be gobbled down and it will be so unfair they should only get the cheque if the top brass go home save for Guibert who should be made CEO...strategic partner from Uarabuni...YES/NO?

A strategic partner is most welcome. And indeed most of the managers must exit

the shareholder is only remembered during problems in rights

Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly

i will however be a buyer for the rights at 2bob and add more at 1.50 after rights, when you are near the ground there is nowhere further you can fall to and its no brainer the gvt can't let go kq

I like your argument: near the ground no further fall! And you hold a huge volume waiting for take off to the sky designating you to dollar millionaire status quo

@vvs. That was before.. And no, ngunze doesnt have any KQ shares. A CEO does not have to own shares to ensure the company is profitable. I wonder, does Collymore own massive holding, if at all in SCOM. Nonetheless, he has been an auxilliary cause of drop in share price esp when he opened up to Chebet about paying salaries via loan. An experienced CEO would never do that

KQ's former and current management are very smart. They have made millions over the years. Naikuni & Mbugua pulled in over 75mn/year [official pay] excluding perks like free flights for their families. Why buy shares in a firm you are milking to death?
Current & former CEOs (& directors) who have SIGNIFICANT ownership (& whose fortunes are/were tied to their firms) in their firms include:

James Mworia - Centum
James Mwangi - Equity
Bill Gates - Microsoft
Warren Buffett - Berkshire Hathaway
Charlie Munger - Wesco & BH
Pradeep Paunrana - ARM
Bharat Thakrar - ScanGroup
Charles Njonjo - CFC
PK Jani - CFC (deceased)
Andrew Ndegwa - Unga
James Ndegwa - NIC
Philip Magor - Williamson Tea
Suresh Shah - I&M (former Chairman)
Sachit Shah - I&M (non-exec director)
Sarit Shah - I&M (executive director)
Sunil Shah - KCB (former non-exec director)
Suresh Shah - Uchumi (former CEO & then 3rd largest shareholder)

Aga Khan firms (except Nation) work a little differently. The Chairman, CEO & CFO are often appointees of the Aga Khan and serve as an extension of AKFED.

They have been some notable failures too.

Carl Esprey - ADSS
Michael Matu - Olympia (Though to be clear, he is a crook through and through. The 3:1 Rights Issue was a means to pull in cash from unsuspecting shareholders like Paul Ndungu among others).
Chris Kirubi - Uchumi

Warren Buffett says it best.

On Boards - Directors therefore must be chosen for their business savvy, their interest, and their owner-orientation. According to Buffett, one of the greatest problems among boards in corporate America is that members are selected for other reasons, such as adding diversity or prominence to a board—or, famously, independence.

On CEOs - Buffett instructs, is to take great care in identifying CEOs who will perform capably regardless of weak structural restraints. Large institutional shareholders must exercise their power to oust CEOs that do not measure up to the demands of corporate stewardship. Outstanding CEOs do not need a lot of coaching from owners, although they can benefit from having a similarly outstanding board.

Berkshire’s directors get only token compensation; they don’t get liability insurance either. And they have purchased large amounts of stock. This arrangement—almost unheard of in corporate America—means the directors must truly believe in their mission.

WB: “a Berkshire CEO must be ‘all in’ for the company, not for himself” — and “character is crucial,” Buffett noted, since “a CEO’s behavior has a huge impact on managers down the line.”

Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett

stock price is a factor of information and right now, all negative information has been passed across on KQ, management fraud, ticketing loopholes, record losses, bad customer service, insane pricing, sex for tenders, negative equity.. the only question remaining is whether KQ will make a vastly reduced loss than last year. I doubt it. But I believe the firm shall exist into the near future, so we buy in small doses awaiting the turnaround
