Foreign investors’ shareholding of CFC Stanbic Holdings has hit the maximum limit set by the capital markets regulator, effectively locking them out of any additional purchase of the stock. Other companies in which foreign investors have reached the regulatory shareholding limit are Standard Chartered Bank where the stake held by foreigners is 75.01 per cent, Total Kenya at 94.11 per cent and British American Tobacco at 76.16 per cent. Companies that had exceeded the threshold before the rule was implemented were allowed to maintain the status quo. http://www.businessdailyafrica....78/-/aiatk8/-/index.html

Banking stocks have been operating on "buy the rumour sell the news"!! So get ready to sell the news if it is worse than the rumour! @guru - buy the rumour, sell the news. The better the news the harder the sell since its bullish extreme! Senseless... Mr market has never been rational My target is 40 and if it prints just like mpesa bank @5.80, i'l be offloading 50%.
I had also stated last week that global equities look toppish & they're now rolling over and NSE might see some foreign selling. Foreigners will definitely cash some from NSE to get buy discounts at their markets. From positioning out there, global stocks could correct hard in March & April. Will foreigners stay put even with peaceful elections while discounts grow fatter back home? This is the equation I'm fighting with at the moment. Should NSE retrace below 4133 & 4000, my bullish bet will be smashed...
Btw watch JSE. I expect it to take it in the chin as it's more correlated with global stocks.

NSE chairman on 26.02.2013 Ladies and Gentlemen: On top of the shift from fixed income securities to equities owing to decline in interest rates, there is a lot of interest in the East African equities space and especially Kenya given it is a fast upcoming Frontier Market. We are informed that New Africa and Frontier market funds are driving the equity markets in the Sub-saharan Africa especially with interests in the consumer and banking sectors. Lack of liquidity or availability on some of the stocks is also encouraging investors to pay a premium on the share price to get a share of the pie in their portfolios. Increasing interest in the Natural resources sector, with Oil and Gas findings, is also encouraging investments in the region as this is likely to drive local demand further and thus support economic growth. Finally current equity market valuations are yet to reach the values last experienced in 2007. Forty one (41) out of the fifty three (53) companies listed on November 30 2007, have Price Earnings (PE) Ratios lower today, than they were on November 30 2007. These are also indications that domestic and foreign investors anticipate smooth elections. https://www.nse.co.ke/media-cent...tums-equity-linked-notes

Foreign Investor holdings Jump to 40.02% 4Q12 compared to 27.9% 3Q12.According to a bulletin released by the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) foreign investor holdings rose to their highest level 4Q12 at 40.02% compared to 27.9% 3Q12. During the same period foreign investor participation averaged 50% compared to 45% 3Q12, while foreign investor net inflow jumped 81% to KES 9.03bn. Foreign investors have been actively buying into the market with interest mainly on the large cap stocks including, EABL, Safaricom, KCB, Equity Bank, BAT and Barclays Bank. Strong demand on the counters pushed up the prices of these stocks last year with all of them witnessing double digit growth in their prices. A Stable exchange rate coupled with a positive economic outlook has driven foreign investor decision to heavily invest in the local equities market. On the other hand local investors have been providing most of the supply trying to lock in gains made from the rally witnessed last year. Local corporate holdings fell to 34.09% 4Q12 from 40.27% 3Q12 while local individual holdings fell to 23.14% 4Q12 from 28.34% 3Q12.
