There is a perfect reason we are perceived in that way!
The converts have made a conscious rational decision to follow a certain religion while people born into one are just mechanical puppets following what their parents followed!
For those who always misunderstand me, my answer below
does not mean it is a support of girls abduction in Nigeria
My answer is
to only answer the question saying "Converts are more radical than those born in the religion", which is a deviation/digression from the topic.
So @urstill1, it is true that it is a perception. And your perception is wrong. You see according to you, the person who says
there is one God, who
prays 5 times a day,
fasts for a month every year,
pays zakat to the poor, says no alcohol, says
no fornication, says
marriage is good, does
not cheat, does
not lie, and says we want our women to be given the liberty to
wear Islamic hijab (
just like some people have freedom to dress in miniskirts or wear no pant), the people who comes out and say those killing innocent people are not following Islamic teachings...
According to you, this person symbolizes
radical militancy.
For your information, this is not it.These people are simply their assertion that they want
to follow the
teachings of their religion.
You see the proper Islamic manner is we follow the behaviour of the prophet (s.a.w) in all cases. Allah says in Quran 33:21:
"
Indeed in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example to follow for whoever hopes in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much."
So I say to you @urstill1 search in google "
Muhammad ibn abdullah" and see if you can find a human whose life has been more
documented in detailed than his. You will not find.
Then compare his life with 100 human beings in history that you can find from a search. And categorically, you can find without any doubt, irrefutable evidence that
his behavior is the most profound; comprehensively, categorically as an example for anyone who wants to look into as a husband, as a leader, as a brother, as a merchant. In every
capacity, his life is there.
And so if we look at the prophet in times of war, times of opression, times of starvation, times of whatever leadership, legendary, adjudication, in every condition, see how he acted! And you will find our example is there. No other example. The
human example of the prophet as a messenger and as a prophet.
And that is our example, that is the behaviour that we
Muslims subscribe to. And only behaviour. And that itself is the demonstration of the Quran. If you want to know how do we enact the Quran, look at the life of Muhammad (s.a.w).
The idea that one has to meet or adapt to the ever changing modern standards of lifestyle is not acceptable for the person who knows his religion.
The definition of cuclture is ever-changing; gaism is good, marriage is bad, slender figure is good, tomorrow slender figure is bad. We are saying women are not going to achieve equality by putting
their bodies on display on
billboards. True equality will achieved only when women don’t need to display themselves to get attention and won’t need to defend their decision to keep their bodies to themselves.
