Hey, I do agree that the post was propaganda-ish. I just pasted it from something I got. Just pick what you may from it....

UPDATE:
On second thought, I deleted the post I pasted.. Apologies for that one! I was carried away in the moment...

..i might be wrong, but am assuming the referendum is a Gok project(remember the last one in 2005?)
...if that be true, then they should only be talking about the KATIBA and not 2007/2012 elections ,correct?
....if they digress like they always do,it will mean we are paying taxes for people to go into campaign mode....Now that we dont have an official opposition party....who will complain about state machinery?

Just been catching up on this debate. Perhaps we should advance arguments on why YES and why NO, instead of propaganda and name calling ? :) and a distinct lack of tolerance for divergent views in some cases.

I'm also sure there's quite a number of other things that are good and others that are bad. I for one like the recall MP bit :) though implementation is another thing all together since I believe some laws need to be enacted.

On Abortion

Quoting Chapter 2 - 26 (page 26 in the PDF)

Abortion is not permitted unless, in the opinion of a trained health
professional, there is need for emergency treatment, or the life or health of
the mother is in danger, or if permitted by any other written law.

-> a couple of loop holes to be exploited perhaps? I'm not qualified enough to pick them out, but trained health care professional can be any number of people - a doctor, nurse, lab assistant, lab tech - too wide perhaps?

On the Kadhi Courts

I just come across some useful article.

All previous versions of the Draft Constitution have consistently stated categorically that:

“State and religion will be separate, there will be no state religion and that all religions will be treated equally." These provisions have now been removed, leaving only that "There Will Be No State Religion."

(From: Page 16 in the PDF. Chap 2 - 8 )

See post #1 on this thread elsewhere on wazua for the entire article.

At least this post by Pete Ondeng & Peter Waiyaki is sober in its nature (as opposed to one rather vitrolic one that's been doing the rounds lately).

There's also this presentation on Youtube of the same albeit in summary form.

Regarding this whole business.

Pegging our hopes and dreams on it as a nation feels and sounds eerily like 2002 euphoria all over again. I stand to be corrected but I think there will be a sense of anticlimax after all this exercise is completed.

The real work is in the implementation, the doing. Kenyans are better talkers than doers (IMHO) unfortunately.

I'm not decided on anything yet but will pray that I know what to do when the time comes.

What if the constitution passes and all works out well.... how will the church leaders win back their flocks credibility ?.... I think church leaders should just let the flock read the Draft and decide for themselves if its good or bad for them..........

It was intresting to watch Karua all over Ruto on KTN last night. The Eldoret north mp was a big player at the Naivasha PSC retreat and agreed on many of the clauses he is trying to fight in the draft constitution.Like Martha asked Bill what has changed between Naivasha and now.
On the abortion clause that has church 'leaders' running wild,a similar provision is in the current penal code.

Catholics say No to Kenya draft law

Unbiased opinion or Fictional reality?
Dead right or Positively wrong?

The catholic church did not oppose the constitution the last time despite the Kadhis court being in it!! After 4 days of prayers they decide to cast the 4-5 or 10 stone against their muslim brother.
I expected more from the Catholic church!!
From the Former(yeah) Mp wanjiru and other prosperity gospel "forget what jesus said about turn your cheek and live a simple life" preachers, well they are power hungry and greedy. Their coffers will increase with more media coverage. I never expect much from them!

@Fundaa, the church has to give its opinion on this matter - its is not your place to dictate what the church can or cannot say on this matter. They know their flock may not vote as advised. History is full of people who refused to follow their prophets...this may not be the first time nor the last time but it will in no way shut up the clergy.
The Catholic church has done an honorable thing to reject this bad draft.
if my memory serves me correctly, didn't Raila/ODM rap at the Catholic Church in 2005 when it asked the its flock to vote according to their consciences?

did i hear /see right?
..Fundah says what if ?????what if?????
.....does it mean you are voting yes hoping and crossing your fingers that it works right?
..to borrow a leaf, what if doesnt work out the way you thought or have been told?.....will you say at least we tried? or it might be too late to say so ?
....lets not create deadlines in our minds as to when we need the new constitution.we all need one!
Voting NO doesnt mean you dont need a new one,it simply means you dont like the one that has been presented, otherwise why vote?
....staying at home means you dont care but because we care,we will go and vote

Why are we vilifying the Bride of Christ?.Shame on you

Church leaders have not forced anyone to vote NO and are not going to. They are only pointing out things which are important to the Christian faith in their opinion.

I don't see why any pro-democracy Kenyan should want church leaders to be mum while their points are clearly valid. They are only ADVISING for heavens sake!(and campaigning like the rest of us)

Let's not forget that in countries such as US and UK, elections are decided on the basis of issues such as the ones the Bride of Christ is raising.

Mimi sijaamua bado.....but my tentative vote is YES
