VVs- the key word payment when scheduled. Note this applies to any type of loan. For example, for the HFCK makao product only, interest charge only kicks in once you drawadown on it.
This in effect means that you can go for 12 months without making any repayments and this won't make an npl!

Can banks then make any money from lending to farmers if the money is soo much dependent on the weather, unless of course they lend them at above 30% interest to compensate for the many NPL which would eventually result? I think if i were a big bank i would leave small banks and companies like Mumias sugar to lend to farmers ... at least they have a lot of vested interests!

@cicero - Due to the problems with recoveries, many firms have exited the 'lending' or 'credit' business for farmers...

I agree that small(er) banks are better equipped to handle farmers BUT Equity is a big player & remains so... I am sure Co-op Bank has a huge stake in the farmers business but through the Saccos.

When Co-op was going public the ad had this prosperous mzee who was a farmer...

It looks like everything is on the up and up. If we pass the draft (after MPs realise squabbling does not help anyone and harms the economy) then shares will go further up towards 2012. Probably 2010 and 2011 are bull years. The NSE 20 may even hit it earlier record above 6,000 points before december this year unless we kill the draft constitution. But 2012 will be a tricky year to be at the NSE especially if the current political heat\alliances persist.

Do wazurians have an opinion on which stock is yet to take off BUT might just be a joy ride in the next two years? Is that stock Mumias Sugar?Think

Most firms will benefit from the better economy... Some more than others. The rains should benefit Coop & Equity which lend to farmers...

They can write back the provisions & increased lending as well...

I honestly dont understand what's happening with the "old" stocks like Equity and KCB. Why are they being left behind even by strugglers of old?And i expected Mumias sugar to be at 15 by now, bearing in mind that they announced good half year profits and the horizon looks rosy. Whats cutting? It's a little hard to work the math ...

@cicero i think the likes of equity and KCB are being left behind in the current market rally because there are better bargains out there...
i think mumias half year results were already priced in the share price...

I dont know about KCB because i havent recently read about their results BUT i thought wazurians had already agreed that if Mumias were to keep the trend of earnings the least they can report in terms of earnings at the end of the year is 1.60 per share leaving the PE below 8 ... meaning the share sould be worth at least 15 bob ... is 10 bob a nice place for the share to wait ... i thought 13 bob would be where the share would balance waiting for end of year results ... but obviously i was wrong!

@cicero full year results for mumias will come out at least 7months from now... the market cannot start pricing them in now... i think only after May is when the share price will start its rise...
