I totally agree, we need to keep all our top players....if you look at Man Utd they don't usually spend the kind of money being thrown around by Chelsea and City but then again they have been able to maintain their top players at the club which keeps the team stable and gives them a lot of options in the transfer market. If we maintain the same team and add at least three top players, i'm almost certain we would end our trophy drought.

End of an Era
Dutch striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy retired from professional football on Monday, ending a stellar career that included stints with Manchester United and Real Madrid.

“Yesterday I played my last match as a professional,” Van Nistelrooy, 35, told a news conference.

“I think the moment has come for me to stop playing football — I have reached my physical limit,” he added.

“But there could be no better way to say goodbye than this, in a euphoric moment for the club,” which on Sunday won a place in next season’s Champion’s League with a fourth-place finish in Spain’s La Liga.

During his two-decade career, Van Nistelrooy was crowned top scorer in three countries — The Netherlands, England and Spain.

With 60 goals in the Champions League, he remains that competition’s second-highest scorer, behind Raul of Spain.

To me he was one of the last out and out(box) strikers left in the game. I remember the crowd going "Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudddd "smile

That is quite phenomenal in modern day football.

And Real won the league with a record 100 points!!! d'oh! That even sounds wrong!

I wonder if there's a team that has ever won ALL their league games, in any league! Now THAT would be invincibility.

ION, Tevez throws a jibe at Fergie during their trophy celebrations. Absolutely classless!

The EPL is the most competitive league in Europe that's why no one is talking about Juve's unbeaten run or Real Madrid's record points.

'We know that City are going to spend a fortune, pay stupid money, pay silly salaries and all that. We know that happens. We can't do anything about that.We concentrate on what we can do to try to bring players in for the right reasons. We invest in young players. There's a level of hypocrisy from SAF's statement above, before City and Chelsea came in Man Utd were spending "crazy" money on any player they could get their hands on. Berbatov 30m, Rooney 27m, Rio 27m, Veron 28m, Ruud Van 19m, Carrick 18m, Hagreaves 17m, Anderson 15m etc Whatever City are doing now is exactly what Man Utd did to Arsenal and Liverpool.....Wenger couldn't get any good player at a reasonable price. I think SAF has realized that Man Utd are no longer on top of the "food chain" in terms of attracting top players, here i thought Wenger was the sore loser!

..Fergie will always be a sore looser and it has dawned on him like you said they are not at the top of the food chain anymore. It's Ironical to say the least when Vincent K is penning a new deal to £120k yet Rio is on 200k, Rooney is on 250k yet Aguero is on 200k. You bet City will strengthen the core, Dzeko will certainly leave however reports indicate Ibra wants to go there now thats a signing, with another creative midfielder in Hazard to relief pressure off Silva and one more central defender then they will be formidable. I wonder who Alex is scouting or is it why he keeps on saying they will focus on the youth coz no-one wants ro go there.ohh i forgot even the youth don't want ie Pogba.

You bet your life Chelsea,Arsenal will come back next season and Tottenham so it will be quite interesting.

@smano Tevez god the placard from a fan and he dint know what it actually meant remember he is illiterate like Redknapp lol however he has apologised!

This is why i didn't want Nasri to win anything

http://www1.skysports.co...all/news/11095/7758035/

I don't think it was wise for Nasri to mock Arsenal fans like that no matter how true his statement was. Professional footballers should be able to handle criticism from the fans especially given the circumstances in which he left the club, such comments from him will only hurt his EPL career and invite more trouble from the fans......Adebayor is a good case study or even David Beckham when he tried to take on the fans. I also think he has let Wenger down by those comments, he brought him to England and gave him the opportunity to develop his career on the big stage.

ION.....Wenger's class of 2003-04 has been voted the greatest team of the EPL era.

No one has said its ok, what you should be telling us is whether you feel they deserve the award or not. Like i said last time when we were discussing Rooney's goal, this poll was not properly done....just 300,000 fans voted in all the categories!

Ofcourse SAF is a sore loser, wouldn't you be if your once poor and miserable neighbour won the lottery and started buying things you couldn't afford after you had told the neighbourhood that he'd never get to your standards???? SAF is human guys,c'mon.

I have highlighted the area in red because City have spent in 4 seasons what Utd spent in 25 years

http://a-kick-in-the-gra...pending-spree-more.html

Of course this is a United blog but I don't think the writer has cooked the figures, please confirm.

Man Utd used to make a big signing every other year to remain competitive like any reasonable business man would do - Utd never spent 100M pounds in a season so that comparison is not right @Taz, we never distorted the market. Only Rooney and Rio make those crazy amounts of money, people like Giggs were just put on 75k just the other day, I won't even talk about other players. Chelsea were the first team to distort the market after Roman came in and this translated in wages as well - City have taken it to a new level.

When I talk about wages, I talk about people like Wayne Bridge making 120k and guys like Adebayor 170k, that's why they're even unaffordable to the clubs they're loaned to. City made over 100M pounds loss last year, Utd still has the highest profits before you factor in interest payments for the Glazer debt.

So that's what Fergie is referring to as crazy,@Taz. Don't compare oranges with Apples. City can only be compared to Chelsea and Real Madrid. That is what is crazy. And Fergie is right in saying you can't compete with that, all you do is try to build a strong squad with a few big name signings. Hopefully Kagawa will be one of those during the summer for us. Roman and Jose came and won 2 years in a row, seemingly invincible, then United regrouped and won 3 in a row. It'll be harder with City's vast resources but we'll still compete, maybe in a couple of seasons.

@ Smano, you cannot say that City and Chelsea distorted the transfer market yet Christiano Ronaldo's (former Man Utd Player) price tag was 80m pounds. What you don't get is that before the oil money came in, City and Chelsea had average players in their squads while Man Utd with the funds available to them were able to attract top players without any resistance from other English clubs....Arsenal had to move from Highbury to Emirates so as to generate more revenues for the club. City and Chelsea had to spend to become competitive but the problem is that clubs around Europe and EPL put ridiculous price tags on their targets because they knew the owners of the two clubs were desperate for success and could pay for it. Man Utd on the other hand had the funds to keep their top players and buy at what was THEN ridiculous prices.

SAF's problem is that he now has two major rivals in the transfer market as well as L'fools and Arsenal who are now well capable of competing with them financially. I believe Man City's strategy is to go after all SAF's targets and sign them before he can even put an offer on the table. Reports suggest that Hazard's imminent move to man City might have angered the Man Utd manager because he had already identified him as a priority signing this summer.

http://www.guardian.co.u...-city-biggest-ever-loss

This was from last year so City know they have got some work cut out for them.

@Taz, surely every player that any club shows interest in cannot go to City, can they. In fact I never thought Hazard would come to United, even if City never showed interest, I thought he was more likely to go to Arsenal or Spurs, if they made CL football, maybe coz of their style of play. Secondly I don't think we need Hazard with the wingers we have, even though he can go straight through the middle. What we need is Modric and a Jordi Alba who looks set to join Barca - Evra's best days are over. With Vidic returning, SAF has the option of developing Smalling and Jones as cover, now that Johnny Evans seems to have come of age, while Rio should slowly be edged out due to age and lack of pace. Rafael is still a liability but Smalling or Jones can cover. While Cleverley will only get better, Anderson n Fletcher are out of form and will take at least a season to get back, Scholes and Giggs cannot play all season and Carrick should really be a fringe player, hatoshi mboga! But those midfielders will not take us to the promised land i.e. a 4th European title. Hapo mbele we just need a new guy to replace Berbatov who will likely leave, apparently Utd are interested in Lewandowski of Dortmund but guess we'll see how that pans out.The last time we finished 3rd in EPL was 8 years ago and before that I can't even remember, so we'll still be in contention, even with stronger challenges from Arsenal, Chelsea & Liverpool. Personally I think Spurs will lose a bunch of players if Chelsea win the CL so we'll wait and see on that.

Anyway, bottom line is EPL is set to become more interesting and that's great for all fans. I hope we become genuine contenders for CL title year in year out, but I'd also like to see a cushion on EPL titles to 20, just in case Liverpool have the season of their lives and equal 19 titles (sounds strange saying that, hehe).

@ Smano, SAF was interested in Hazard but kama kawaida the player has gone to the highest bidder. I believe next season will be even more competitive than this one, i can only hope Wenger has learnt his lesson.
