@mnandi I give little credence to people who claim something without proof.

The messenger must be shot especially when we know it is a messenger paid to spread doom and gloom.

If there are issues of credibility, there is a supreme court. Some have stated that the CJ is pro-odm. So why the worry.

Why spend so much time trying to prove something without any evidence but innuendo? Unless you actually lost but using these issues as a preamble to lose ungracefully.

Go to the courts instead of spreading fear and anxiety.

This thing will go to a run off because of the rejected votes. I will not be surprised if someone goes to court.

Now the final one depends on how close Uhuru or Raila will be from the 50% mark. Raila should benefit from Mudavadi votes in the second round but not as much as predicted before because he has already taken a huge chunk from the first round.

But it has turned out to be a battle of two against everyone else.

Last week, the IEBC called IT-savvy representatives of political parties to a meeting on Friday at the Sunshine Holiday Inn in Westlands, Nairobi, where the use and efficacy of the equipment to be employed for the election counting and reporting was to be demonstrated. A representative of the US National Democratic Institute (NDI) was also present.

Party participants had a whole range of questions on which they wanted reassurance from the IEBC, especially concerning potential failures carried forward from the past.

To demonstrate how the new system would obviate all this, some of the participants at the meeting were divided into five groups of three, each group a mock ‘polling station’. They were given mobile phones such as those to be used on March 4. The phones are loaded with the software and menus for completing the tasks at hand.

The remainder of the group sat watching the screen, waiting for the ‘results’ to come in.

That’s when the problems started. The five ‘polling stations’ were initially all unable even to log in.

After a few of the five did eventually manage it, the next problem arose. They were logged in but there was no connectivity with the ‘tallying centre’. The ‘polling station’ callers could not be authenticated.

Finally, after struggling for ONE HOUR, only ONE of these five ‘polling stations’ managed to transmit its results.

Now, much as we want to trust that the IEBC is going to do a good job, we have to ask – if four out of five ‘polling stations’ have problems in a demonstration meant to show the efficient use of this technology, what on earth is going to happen when 33,000 polling stations all try to log in and transmit results at the same time?

We hope the IEBC is trying to fix these problems but, on the basis of the evidence so far, and considering the sheer volume of the data to be transmitted, it certainly appears that there could be a massive system failure.

Hahaha..I had not seen this information before but from what I saw at the polling station, I expected the transmission to be sham...And I actually posted that here.

The problem we have in Kenya is that most of the IT Jobs are with the wrong people. It is a shame that IEBC even had the guts to say they have a system with these kinds of failures.

Also take into consideration that some clerks were hired only to be fired at the last minute! While not necessarily responsible for the current mess, it surely is a pointer to the thinking of the individuals running the organisation.

Back in the day Ahmednassir claimed in an article in the Nation that he had shared with Issaack Hassan the possibility that some of his commissioners were auctioning justice during the dispute resolutions arising out of the nominations.

No one is spreading fear. If you see your kid is doing sthng that may negatively affect their future do you stop reprimanding them until you see the 'evidence' you talk about?

There is enough evidence in that article by Sarah Elderkin coz they were invited by IEBC to test the system and the system failed. Is that too hard to understand!

Hope they are all(returning officers) brought under heavy security escort so the corrupt ones can be arrested at bomas and correct tallies concluded, the issue is integrity, a bunch of them will be nabbed.

mnandii, you keep on harping about that article in the star. Can you please advice us on when Sarah who's been called Raila's gal by one Miguna, became an IT expert?

Can you please explain exactly what the problem is with the system? If there is no computerized system, does it mean there is no democracy?

Are you trying to imply that the IEBC is incompetent and deliberatly denying me my right to vote?

It would be good if you answered these questions before you go to sleep.

What you are trying to spread here is classic black hat marketing 101. State a statement quoting someone else and use that to prove something that is not true. Flog it until people start doubting themselves.

Sure the IT systems may be horrible.
Sure the Iebc had procurement issues.

I'm saying sure, just to please you.

The question you need to answer before you burst your bubble is, is the IEBC DOING THIS INTENTIONALLY TO DENY YOU YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE?

Answer what is in capitals in the affirmative then we can talk. If you meander around another Sarah article, then I'll know where you're coming from.

If there are procurement issues at IEBC, there is a fora for that.

Right now, I'm more concerned about the credibility of the vote. Unless you have hard evidence to there being deliberate attempts to fake these polls, I will consider you in the same level as that Alai fellow. Fools who don't understand that they have a responsibility to keep their mouths operating slower than their silly minds. The lives of decent Kenyans depends on that.
