They named Bungoma, Kisumu and Nakuru as some of the NCPB depots where the cartels sold the imported maize.
A section of millers have admitted that cartels took advantage of the early opening of NCPB stores store to buy and deliver the produce.
“All we know is that most of the maize imported by cartels from Uganda ended up in the NCPB stores while most farmers were still harvesting the crop,” said a miller who requested anonymity. you are either a capitalistic society or you are not! no one owes you anything! That is why kenyans are suffering with unga at an artificial high of 120 bob instead of market driven 70 bob. FYI govt is only supposed to maintain a strategic maize reserve of "x" number of bags, not serving as a marketing channel for maize farmers where govt buys maize at artificially high prices and sells to millers leading to abnormally high unga prices.

Otherwise corruption will never end We should open the EA borders to allow free movement of produce, goods and services. Why should a kenyan be buying a bag of maize at 3200 bob while it is 1800 across the border in UG? Why should a farmer be buying poultry feed at 2300 bob a bag while it is 1500 in UG? We should open the borders like the EU has done to promote trade and increase productivity.

YES! And in addition the grain should be traded openly in an exchange to be fair to the farmer and buyer. Why does govt buy maize anyway? It doesnt buy coffee or tea "There are only two emotions in the market, hope & fear. The problem is you hope when you should fear & fear when you should hope: - Jesse Livermore .

YES! And in addition the grain should be traded openly in an exchange to be fair to the farmer and buyer. Why does govt buy maize anyway? It doesnt buy coffee or tea The same mess is in the sugar industry. Because mumias and other millers claim they dont have enough cane to make sugar, they get licenses to import and sell sugar. They thus buy sugar at the world market price of 35 bob a kilo and sell the same to kenyans at 120 bob. And the tax payers still have to bail the companies out coz even with the "theft" from kenyans, they claim to be making loses. Kenya would be better off buying sugar from brazil at 35 bob instead of the cartels making citizens buy it at 120 per kilo. If kenyan sugar farmers cant manage to supply sugar at 35 bob a kilo, then they should switch to something else. Innocent wananchi shouldn't bear the burden of the sugar farmers uncompetitiveness/inefficiency. https://www.isosugar.org/prices.php
