is it legal to demand that Zain sticks to its prices permanently and operate in the Kenyan market for at least ten years? I am convinced that Zain has no interest in Kenyan market and have decided to spoil the cake for the winners. i bet within 2 years they will not operate in kenya and it will be too late for real investors read safaricom, orange etc
they destroyed the market by lowering their prices to extreme loss making levels. the other market players have no choice because we all know kenyan are unique.
ANY growth is driven by profits leading to innovation more jobs and faster growth. safaricom has made its profits and has come up with world leading products.ZAin = Pain.

You must be kidding, did you hear the billions they will be pumping in for the next two years? It would take a very foolish person to spend money for no reason ati just to spoil market.

Why are people showing brand loyalty? Unless you work for Safcom, you should be celebrating the competition

@Mlefu
Your argument makes sense... But then again,Safcom and the other brands have slashed their rates drastically since Zain'z insane move..which could mean that they've been making outrageous profits out of us! I highly doubt they're making huge loses even with the new rates. Zain could be up to no good..but at least they've brought some sanity to the telecom World.

Eddy Mundu..thats just a hearsay..i still bet Zain has no interest in this market and YES Safconed billions out of us but we appreciate their products..MPesa,broadband internet, jobs etc...... the prices set by Zain are simply ridiculous. from their financial report Zain has no profit record even ones..they have no idea on how profits are made @#$% them!!!!Today i will visit CCK and see whether I can demand commitment from Zain.

You are very right , zain just trying to spoil the cake , has anyone thot for a minute what would happen if safaricom closed down what will we do ,

i think CCK has dropped the prices too quickly its going to damage the market , the cheaper calls are going to bring more people on the network and call dropping will be all the time now

CCK is to control prices up or down

i hope i will still have a mobile phone and a mobile network to use next year

Guys fight against this uncontrolled prices drop , we have had operators in Tanzania going BUST

Lets not have it in Kenya

Anyone

Let me get this right, people here are upset that Zain dropped prices and forced Safcon to do the same?

Amazing......

CCK lowered interconnect charges...didnt tell anyone to lower their call charges. no one is making a loss...get your facts right! @mlefu, i feel extremely sad when a kenyan repeats an insult on kenyans that was made by MJ sometimes back. is it self-loathe or what? kenyans are not unique (peculiar if u like) for wanting to make calls at sensible rates. i ll be happy tho if Zain makes that committment...and if safcon follows suit and makes theirs permanent.....so go ahead by all means

May be @ Mlefu is speaking purely as a shareholder of safaricom co. For the records its not "Kenyan" to want to lower your expenses by using a cheaper option..its economical!!

If the roof is on fire let the mathaf&^*er burn..who cares!Safcom have been operating like a monopoly n Mpesa was an idea that had been brought up to the market by Zain but Safcon perfected it n made millions from us. Further more the reason why most people were on Safcom is coz they came up with cheaper rates than Zain which had connection fees n per minute billing. zain is doing the same now..charging us a considerable amount 4 a call..i love it!Its healthy business competition!!

lol... are you guys even serious? lower charges and ya'll complain?Sad ati-ri-ri... if all operators have NOW taken down their rates, is that not a good thing for the end user=us? that just makes them more innovative in terms of, if they all come down, now they have to look at more innovative products/strategies, to keep us in their stable... competition is ALWAYs a good thing.

Some basic business principles make me smell a rat in Pains move.
I agree that voice call rates were relatively high in Kenya but that doesnt mean telecommunication companies should operate at losses.
How rich and philanthropic is bharti (Hand behind pains move) to operate on losses for a year or two?. Assume they get the masses (as they are targeting), what principle will they apply to increase the charges on voice calls?
Bharti has masked with pain to spoil and then come later on as B Airtel with new charges.
The worst crime that people/organisations commit in life/business is setting a pace that they cant maintain.
Pain has dug its graveyard and the Luwele song is in the air soon.
Safcm can survive on data, mpesa, mkesho, okoa jahazi etc.

To CCK
Where on earth do we have polices like the ones you are almost introducing in telecommunications? Kenya is a capitalistic market where consumers are free to choose. Away with your archaic socialistic policies. Kenyans are above that! You cant punish a company for its well earned success!! Who told pain to be an underdog? It had the same playing ground as safcm, why dint it realize success???
The government should provide an enabling environment for companies to thrive.

What is to sink will sink anyway. It doesnt matter how many floaters support it.
I love safcm for the many positives it has brought in Kenya.
