If you are considering importing from UK, have a look at AutoTrader. There are thousands of dealers you can choose from and over 300k motors at any given time. When doing a search, one of the mandatory search criteria is a postcode, use RM19 1QX.

Services offered: Once you have bought the car from a dealer/seller of your choice, I will make all the necessary arrangements from this end for it to be shipped. These include arranging for JEVIC inspection, notifying DVLA and arranging for recovery company to deliver it to the port (some dealers can do this but it will cost you extra). Once car is delivered to the port, normally Tilbury Port, I will DHL all the documents to you, normally 3-5 working days after the ship sails, these docs will be Bill of Lading, Log book, JEVIC inspection certificate and all other documents you and the seller/dealer agreed on, these could be Car Manual, Service History etc.

Additional service: If you would like me to view the car you are intending to buy before paying any money, I can do that for you, I will also test drive it on your behalf. I will however need your word that you are a serious buyer so that I don’t waste my time and money travelling to go view a car that you don’t intend to buy. So, no time wasters when it comes to this.

Before you buy: Ensure the car is a 2003 model and has a valid MOT, with at least 4 months left on it. If car is not MOT’d, JEVIC will not inspect it unless a new MOT is issued which will cost more money. MOT test checks that vehicles meet UK’s road safety/worthiness and environmental standards.

Clearing: There are a number of KIFWA registered agents I can introduce you to and they will manage the process on your behalf, including delivery to your doorstep if required. I can also advice you on approximate duty before buying any car. Details on how to calculate duty is available of KRA website if you would like to check it out yourself.

Payment: This is the tricky bit for many, you don’t have to pay me money for the purchase of your car (you pay the seller/dealer you are buying from), inspection (I will arrange and send you invoice, you pay JEVIC directly, costs between £125 -£148),freight (I will book and you shipping line/company directly [costs a minimum of £800], we normally Diamond Shipping services - they have offices in Mombasa).

***The only money you pay me directly is for my services***

***If you chose to pay me money for the car, inspection and freight to transact on your behalf, this would be entirely your decision, not mine***

Charges for my services will vary depending on distance, normally starts from £300 per car.

Warning: For peace of mind, source from independent dealers or franchises. If sourcing from a private seller, I would advise you use an agent/family/friend living in the UK to transact on your behalf.

@Oyster,
Same question repeated here again......I hope you will forgive my ignorance. If i want a Hyundai Tiburon (Tuscani) or any other non-Jap model, why would i need a JEVIC inspection Cert?

@Njunge,you need JEVIC inspection for all imports, it is a regulatory requirements by the Kenyan Authorities. If you import without the certificate, they will fine you and in addition, still get JEVIC kenya to carry out an inspection, to avoid the fine, it is advisable to get the inspection done before the car is aboard the ship.Have a look at KRA website for more information.

Where ever you choose to buy a car from, always have the car checked out before you release any chums... especially gumtree!
None of the above sites mentioned is regulated as such.... in the sense that what is advertised is not necessarily exactly what you get.

Only ebay scores sellers. So they tend to be more truthful... but even so.

Don't even think about gumtree if you do not have anyone to check out the vehicle. Some sellers on gumtree are honest but..... how do you know which?

In fact gumtree advises against paying anything before physically getting you hands on the item (and even meeting sellers in isolated places... hehehe)

Experience: Someone in Nairobi sent me a securing deposit for a car he saw on Auto trader. Yes it did look good...... but against my advise he insisted I secure it. Eventually sent the balance to the Motor Trader. Of course the dealer was economical with some of the info.

Eventually the buyer had to spend more money eg RoadTax to get the car out of the dealers yard and MOT was less than four month (yet he had been told the car has a long MOT). and one or two thing to get through the MOT. eg tyre threads less than 1.6mm/high emisions... oxygen sensor needed changing etc.

Money to buy a car is not exactly pocket change. Due diligence is indeed necessary.

JkMwatha, you are right, that's the reason I offer my services. I have been in the trade for over 15 years, and I know what to look for whenever clients send me to view cars on their behalf. Many people who import, do it blindly, be it from Japan or Europe and the unlucky few,end up with all sorts of problems that could have been avoided by sending a relative/friend/agent to view the car before they part with their cash.Note that viewing and not knowing what to look out for is absolutely pointless, so, whoever it is you are sending has to be in the know.

I must mention that, majority of cars from UK will be very good and well maintained and I am sure JkMwatha agrees with me on this, but just like any other society, you will find bad seeds. With my services, I will steer you way from these bad seeds.

@Oyster - agreed - cars are in pretty good shape in UK. Thats because it works out cheaper to have a well maintained car.

on sourcing cars... No single place is particularly best or worst ..private/trader/auction.
So, as you say "whoever you send has to be in the know"

Many car traders source from auction and do absolutely nothing to the car before selling it on....

-I do-

Yet the car trader might provide you with a 3 month guarantee, hoping nothing happens to the car. And even if you were to return the car to the dealer within the three months you are not likely to get your money back but rather have the car fixed or replaced.

Auction, being the most risky, has the best saving... but is not for everyone.

BTW @Oyster why didn't you use your previous user name... JOBPLANTsomething... during the days of SK?
Or is it a case of different user same company?

@JKMwatha..West London!!!(Where excatly) I don't think so..however i could be wrong.
In my experience the best place to find the best maintained cars at very resonable prices has always been outside London, try and look at prices of cars in this areas, Coventry, Glasgow, Portsmouth and Surrey..this 4 rank it for me. Have bought an 07 top of the range car early last year for 6k quid in glasgow.

The greatest danger in times of turbulence is not the turbulence; it is to act with yesterday's logic.

@JkMwatha...I dont trust people with gmail accounts as primary business email address, I also have issues with those who operate from their mobile phones as you cannot pin them down...they tell you they are in London yet live is a small village in North Wales...I have been conned by a "GMAIL car dealer" b4.....

You claim you are based in West London, west London is big my friend..be specific, where can we find you? or do you operate your business on the streets or a KFC restuarant or McDonalds? what's the name of your business?

@Githuon - WOW!!! ...that was '...below the belt'
You are just short of getting me summoned to appear before a Tribunal.

but I see where you're coming from

I do not claim to run a car dealership neither do I have premises where there are stocks of cars.
That does not mean that I live in a small village in North Wales (called West London).
I don't even like KFC or McDonalds!

I source/buy/sell/export/import vehicles (cars/trucks/farm machinery etc) and parts.
The most I ever hold is probably 3 or 4 cars... either because they're on order or I picked up a good deal.
I am only just setting up a business, soon to be revealed... but I am currently trading in my own name.

I am not asking you to trust me (...well actually, I am)... but as for exporting cars to Kenya, it has been mainly through referrals.
Some time ago I indicated that I got some orders for vehicles from 'strangers' through this forum. This has continued to generate (albeit slowly) other orders.
[Never, will you hear me criticize Wazua]

Lakini, I will get there.... believe me ... Nitatoboa.
