40 Acres in Ngara? Where in particular? Does it by any chance currently belong to Kenya Railways?

@ much know...typical kenyan stereotyping.....Do you know the major source of somalis investments? iots diaspora remittance and business. There are numerous somalis out there , in fact in every western capital the somalis make up a significant prpotion of immigrant ant and asylum seekeres...visit UNHCR and see for your self. Once there they engage in jobs and business. Just like the kenyan diaspora they need to invest home ...and just like the southern sudanese they have chosen to call kenya home since home squared is not hospitable.

Whenever CBK releases those diaspora remittance figures... ask your self how many 'kenyans' trully send money home and what am saying will ring true.

Somalis are astute businessmen/middlemen since this has been culturally ingrained in them from the days of the phoenicians

Waria, that's a most interesting angle I have never thought of about the diaspora remittances not being 100% All Kenyan...All the time

@waria thats a thought lakini on the other hand come to mombasa look around.... every new dev (real estate) in town
'specially on the island that within the last year spear headed by the waria,s not kenyan.
This is happening suddenly as if there is a great hurry to take up every available plot on the island.
Open secret is the piracy relationship to this developments.

the bottomline is that we chose to be a capitalist nation so the concept of wiling buyer -willing seller should prevail..its like going to sell a cow in the market then a buyer offers 10x your offer price then you complain..let them buy the land as they wish..we will create more space i.e reclaim the sea a.k.a the dutch or create tall buildings a.k.a burj hotel in dubai

@much-know; that's not a fair comment. It portrays the impression that all people of Somali are pirates. That is very far from the truth
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

@dsgnplus; At the rate of about US$5 million per ship (Sh350m), the piracy money is too little to have any significant effect on the property market in the country. Think about it, one captured ship can only buy 3acres in the plot advertised here by @a4architect.com.

Unless you think they've been taking one ship every day.

I am very worried about all this talk of pirate money being used to buy property in Kenya. If you want to know where the Somalis are getting their money from, go to Eastleigh and see the businesses they are involved in...and they've been doing thos businesses from decades. They didn't just start from "nowhere".

And why did they start buying land in other areas? Well, why not? They are Kenyans aren't they?

To all who are reading this: be very careful when you engage in this piracy money talk. This is how genocidal tendencies begin.

120 M / acre is not only steep but ridiculous. I am one of the few capitalist in Kenya who believe that guys should not be selling soil (read land), but, the value of investments made to it.

Nairobi and its environs has experienced an exponential rise in land value, chiefly driven by speculation and money from questionable sources.

I have no problem people selling well serviced parcels of land, with roads, ready electricity, water, piped gas, laid fibre optic cables, schools, hospitals and other amenities just to mention.

On the Kenya railways land are old pre-Independence corrugated iron sheet structures built on now rotting tree stumps. I again state that these structures as "antique" as they may be and the soil they are on are not worth the billions that would be accrued from their sale. given that roads and other infrastructure are nonexistent.

Its high time that sanity prevailed in the Kenyan real estate market before we ended in the scum that the US and now Dubai are are in.

I agree with Mukiha. Some stereotypes are just dangerous...for the Pirates, what they do is really bad...but that doesn't mean we call all Somali investors pirates.

@ dukawala..its not the old dilapidated buildings that will make people buy the property. Its the land. The buyer wil demolish the buildings 1st thing then he constructs high-tise. Check out this article then you will see how much profit you will still make at that price
