In Kenya banks shied away from lending against land because of a number of factors.One,land is a corruption tool in Kenya and so there are many scandals/feuds emanating from its transactions.Two,in the 80s defaulters left too much land in the hands of banks. Having said that,there are a number of products on offer by banks that could help you purchase land. There is a mortgage to help you construct. Housing Finance and Equity bank have such a product. You would have to own the land though for you to enjoy this.

@knjinu

The plots measure 0.5 ha and they have clean titles the guys selling are wazee's. It was a land buying company formerly known as kiguaru farm which subdivided the land into small plots. The plot can be accessed either through kiambu road or limuru road. I know most of the former members who have been selling the land . My old lady has one but she keep on posting the sale. Although i know she will sell it by the end of this year.

If looking for a residential plot,I've also got this 0.25 of an acre next to Muthithi estate off Kiambu road at kshs 2.7 million. There are nice residential houses dotting this area.

Do these rates reflect the diminished value (slums,linear settlements) expected of the northern bypass?

@Waria
Red soil contrasted with black (cotton) soil in regard to construction.

It is easier/cheaper to build on the former.

On cotton soil,you scoop all of it out,and are left with a trough to fill with costly hardcore.

Even around the compound the bloody black soil gets so messy when it rains,that, you got to cover it up.... with....bought..... and transported..... red soil,which friendlier to gardening.

@Waria - red soil is easier to build on and does not require the depth you need on black cotton soil (which in some areas they dig out and put red soil below the foundation). Red soil is more stable.

Talking of plots,I bought 0.5 acre in Thome1 in 2003. I left for the USA for studies and I am now done and preparing to come home next month. I am consindering selling it (quick sale) because I need money to resettle in Kenya. Kindly someone tell me the price range in Thome1. When I left Kenya in 2004,both my neighbours were nearly done constucting their houses on their 0.5 plots. Kindly someone help me with this please; I could dispose it through this site for your benefit.

Thank you very much and God Bless.

Hi all,I'm very keen on land in Runda Kigwaru area,especially if certain i'm not dealing with con men... That's something all should look out for nowadays... Perhaps if you know of someone - perhaps one of the wazees - interested in a clean sale you can drop me a mail on nmucheru@gmail.com? I'm looking for 0.5 acre there.
