Is this feasible, economically atleast?
Then the railway to be used has not been refurbished even a little.
We will be treated to spectacular derailment spewing black gold all the hinterland and the so called bread basket.

Better move the refinery from Changamwe to Turkana...it may take less than 6 months to relocate it.

By the way the same tankers used to ship the crude by road from Turkana to Eldoret is not the same as the ones that will be used to ship it on the lunatic rail.

So crude will be offloaded from the trucks to holding tanks at Eldoret, then transfered to rail tankers to be shipped to Mombasa at speeds of 15km/h.Sad

The changeover at Eldoret can take forever depending on the number of tanks.
And have they built these transfer system of tanks at Eldoret?d'oh!

My advice to this ambitius government would be:

Buy special rail flat cars that the road tankers will simply drive in and be transported to Mombasa.

Or

Relocate that outdated refinery to Turkana.

And then the refined products will be transported back upcountry, in the end it might end up costing more than imported oil as OPEX will be too high.

Its a total bullsh*t exercise!

At 15km/h rail transport, it will take ove 50 hours for that haulage to arrive at the coast.

Brother, the closure of refinery in Kenya was not accidental. Even in most African countries for that matter... Lazima mtanunua "processed" stuff, that is why the fertilizer factory in Eldy is not really a factory but simply a "mixer"... Sad Sad
