This was just a normal business article about a failing business but I could not help but marvel at just how times have changed. Consider the historical context of these 2 sentences and see if you find this as interesting as I do:

"Union representatives had travelled to Mumbai as a company board meeting was held to try to convince Tata to invest in the plants, which employ thousands in England and Wales.

Unions criticised the government for not sending a minister to India to lobby for the plants to be kept open.

50 or even 20 years ago this would have been unthinkable. That the British are now sending officials to India to lobby on behalf of British workers is very interesting indeed. For a proud Briton who lived in the times when the sun never set on the British Empire this must be very humiliating.

The word is descent. So says "Willis the wordmaster". That said, it must be very humiliating and embarrassing that the iconic Land Rover/Range Rover brand is owned by the Indians.

As you can see "I went to school", a very good school in that case where apart from emphasis on proficiency in grammar we had to "cross all the t's and dot the i's". I get very annoyed when I see grammatical errors whether in official letters or online postings. One should thoroughly read and re-read their "contribution" before hitting the "post button". One should also make use of the "edit" function.

Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly

This is hilarious. Here we are talking about the decline of the British and @hardwood gets really worked up when people make errors in their language....maybe we still live in their shadow. More Kenyan people are irritated by English grammar mistakes than by Kiswahili or Kikuyu grammar mistakes. I remember a certain mzee who kept finding an error in every sentence I uttered in Kikuyu....I quickly shut up.
