The Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs (Midmar), in conjunction with Kirehe District authorities, have begun preparations to resettle Rwandans recently expelled from Tanzania.

According to sources, Tanzanian authorities last month gave Rwandans without what it termed as "valid residential documents" 14 days to leave the country.

The deadline expires today

As far as EAC is concerned, I think we should just ignore Tz for now and move towards establishing a common market with the other members. At some point in the future, they may wanna join but on our terms. As it is currently, they're just pulling us back with their incessant foot-dragging. Even the U.K didn't join the EEC till the 70s!

It all started in Feb 2013 when TZ forced/pursuaded the UN that it be allowed to send troops to Eastern congo, together with Malawi and South Africa against earlier restrictions that SADEC nations are the only one to send. With the help of EU and USA, they were selected to head/lead/commandeer the UN brigade on Eastern D.Q Congo.

Later on at the end of February, tanzania military commission on the UN brigade secretly held a meeting with General Stanislus Nzeyimana (aka Izabayo Bigaruka), the deputy commander of the Hutu rebels FDLR, for briefing and seeking co-operation in taming congolese M23 rebels.

In March, after the end of the meeting, Gen Bigaruka travelled tn Kigoma, western tanzania, where held meetings with refugees and businessmen. However, tz regular police arrested him for been in tz irregularly. Kagame requested that he be returned to kigali, but the tz military intervened and forced the regular police to set him free since he was their 'guest'.

In april, Rwandese military spies (DMI) crossed to Burundi and abducted Gen. Bigaruka as hda was crossing into D.R Congo. However, his whereabout are unknown to date.

In May, in a meeting held in Addis and attended by Ban Ki-Moon, Kikwete asked Museveni, Kagane and Kabila to negotiate with the rebeling groups, but Kagame and Kabila rejected that option.

June, Kagame called Kikwete's proposal utter nonsense, spoken out of ignorance and that he was dancing on the mass graves of genocide victims. The Interahamwe and FDLR are blamed for the 1994 genocide. Kagame said this twice, first during a military graduation and later on a youth conference.

In August, tz issued an order to expel all foreigners with no papers. This was after Kagame, Museveni and Uhuru met in Kampala that TZ saw as an isolationist strategy.

Tz wants to be in SADCC and EAC as and when it suits her, and she keeps dragging back the rest of EAC.
@Dunkang you have captured the sequence of events well, and this agrees with a few military blogs I have read. There is currently a lot of bad blood between Tz and Rwanda, and to a good no. of Tzns they were actually expecting hostilties between the 2 countries - Kikwete had actually to go on air to reassure his countrymen that their armed forces are ready for invasion from 'anybody'.
EAC does NOT need war.
