Homa Bay County Government has proposed Sh2.5 million for the construction of a lavish gym to be used by ward representatives.

The gym is to be built in the County Assembly and equipped using the taxpayers’ money as per the 2013-2014 financial year, if approved by the house.

Just like his Kisumu counterpart, the Governor, Cyprian Awiti has proposed the purchase of 10 Toyota Prados at a cost of Sh70 million.

They should slash the budgets by more than half for those found to have been wasteful then ordered to refund the rest. Come to think of it, as a tax payer can't one can sue a county government for blatant misuse of funds?

Can you imagine if that was to happen?? The next days headline would read something similar to this

"UHURU plots to kills devolution"....let them waste, after all they are a representation of the people

Is there a body/commission that oversees expenditure in counties?

There should be a framework e.g what ratio to spend on recurrent expenses, development, capital assets etc

Oversight will be termed as an attempt to "kill'" devolution.

If this is the trend, some counties will register ZERO growth in the next five years.

Not even zero it will be negative all the little gains will be eroded...seriously what is wrong with Kenyans its like a majority of us are enemies of development we dont want better lives for ourselves and our kids....people need to rise up against such leaders it doesnt matter if you are CORD or JUBILEE...people still live in tin houses and cardboard boxes yet someone wants to waste money building a gym.that 2.5m can change the live of a couple of fellows forever....I swear at times this pains...we are so used to mediocrity until things like this look normal....we are a 3rd world country for heaven sakes...people have no access to the basics, water, food, clothing, shelter yet other people use our taxes to live in splendour its sickening to say they least...I,l still.complain.about the mercs, literally new GK ones that I see being driven over the weekend taking state officers wives and children for roundi mwenda...it rily hurts, its so sad...
