In DN today , the executive elect are talking of salary cuts / freeze to reduce huge wage bill.Is it really realistic in an economy where cost of goods and services rarely go down but up ? We have been informed that cost of electricity will go up, that impacts on Our lives directly through cost of goods production going up. Truth of the matter is that Our economy will wobble in coming Years , Our sovereign debt is about 47% of the GDP and we also have an ambitious manifesto ( laptop for kid joinig class 1, interest free loans, fertilizer subsidy etc) from Jubilee, interest rates from banks are still high . I guess we need to start bracing Ourselves for tax increases .

Morally, if those cuts will weigh heavier on elective/political positions taking out the clamour & glamour, then well & good. The tax-payer should no longer vote only to be strung by the very people their hard work supports. Elective posts must move to being a calling & less of a fanfare!

I foresee job cuts in the Civil Service looming which may target the lower cadre clericals, messengers, cleaners. They may be setting a pace for private sector to freeze salary rise.

I doubt much will change...given the chatter on twitter on who has been chosen as our new/old Finance Minister/Secretary...we're in for a rough patch. Taxes will have to be raised. Business opportunities are like buses, there's always another one coming

@mawinder - I agree,we must start getting involved and work with the government. The problem of taxes should first address inefficiency and that is also linked to corruption.I don't like raising taxes.I prefer stimulating growth although its not that easy. That way,if profits increase tax revenue increase. But if we increase taxes and not focus on growth we'll be on a path to stifle growth. Also when money is scarce,it is the right time to economize i.e. to allocate resources to the most demanding, strategic and profitable ventures. Uncertainty is certain.Let go

Progress, just like investment needs sacrifice.@mawinder has chosen the right words,'be ready to make sacrifices'.We can't anticipate what will happen tomorrow and what actions/sacrifices will be required of us.But if we are mentally prepared to face the future, when that time comes(if it comes) we can handle issues better. We have to be ready to be called into action but also not with blind devotion. Uncertainty is certain.Let go

There are still a lot of leakages through corruption and inflated purchases by government bodies and state agencies. If this can be sealed I doubt taxes will be increased. The man who marries a beautiful woman, and the farmer who grows corn by the roadside have the same problem

It will be hard to seal leakages given its a new bunch coming in, and most need to recover campaign costs. Business opportunities are like buses, there's always another one coming

Surprisingly I find Kenyans at fault more than politicians. We already expect them to do such. The problem is that we ourselves implement their schemes for them because we also want a piece of the cake. Uncertainty is certain.Let go

With such a list of Cabinet Secretaries I foresee little growth going forward. Some of the mentioned names targeting a growth of 5% and above will be a mountain in the sky. http://www.kenyan-post.c...yatta-william-rutos.htmlWealth is built through a relatively simple equation Wealth=Income + Investments - Lifestyle
