While we focus on tribes...what are the issues?

As we continue wasting time and energy focussing on tribal coalitions (I am also guilty here), perhaps we should also look at issues that need addressing. I for one, would like my new President to tackle: 1. Corruption: this is getting out of hand, and would love to see some big fish go down; 2. GOK expenditure: Bloated civil service that does not even deliver basic services needs trimming fast; 3. Nairobi City Council: that this beast be tamed, and made into a productive animal? Business opportunities are like buses, there's always another one coming

4. youth unemployment - you can't have a country where the 50% most productive guys are idle! this is a ticking time bomb 5. Insecurity - stemming partly from 4 above and immigration laws enforcement gone south (read kenya police) Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

I think it's given that we will vote ethnically in this coming elections. That said I thin people should with their heads for the Governors as these are the county CEOs. I think the Nairobi Governor should address these issues in the first term, I would if I had the money to run and I'm pushing them to Jimnah (the person I think can best implement). 1. Address transport (Roads, railway, parking, mikokoteni, bikes, get rid of 14 seaters and enforce discipline) 2. Environment. Get rid of all plastic packaging and polythene paper bags in one year (controversial but must to be done!) 3. Security (We all know the problems here) 4. End harassment of legitimate businesses. BBI will solve it :)

6. IDP Resettlement – that we still have people living in IDP camps 5 years latter is sickening 7. Land issues – Why is a title deed just a piece of paper and why can’t I own land in some parts of this country since I come from a certain tribe? The man who marries a beautiful woman, and the farmer who grows corn by the roadside have the same problem

CORD is proposing to tax idle land, which is all well and good if one is hoarding hundreds if not thousands of acres of idle land. however, what about we the middle class who own a small plot or two, which we intend to bequeath our kids or develop when interest rates come down or when the area opens up? middle class we had better pay attention to the manifestoes by the various parties. rink today' star headline. also, RAO said he will go after stolen public property, which is all well and good. if anyone here owns an apartment in kileleleshwa, you may have reason to be worried as the land probably once belonged to the Govt, some big shot then grabbed/bought at throw away price, and sold to a developer who then put up the many apartment blocks there. the conduit company was then de-registered at registrar of companies. so come march 5 2013 and you may just see a big tinga tinga outside your apartment block.

Kenya Post & Telecommunication could not pay retrenched workers and therefore transferred some of their land to the KPTC Pension scheme in lieu of cash to offset accrued debts. It is a similar story unfolding at Kenya Railways, happening at the moment. Is now right and then wrong?

Good to see issues coming out thick and fast... I also think we should vote for Governors with some level of thought, beyond just tribal bias. These are the people who will count. Business opportunities are like buses, there's always another one coming

@FundamentAli i hear you, not the whole of kille will be affected. but i do know that over 100 former GOK houses (with huge compounds) were dished out/sold to the politically connected during baba's time. if you bought a flat put up on such land, then you may be in trouble. i have a colle mate who'se folks were GOK senior staff, and the house they lived in is now a huge apartment complex. i think ndungu report talks of these plots

What issues? Kenyans discuss (complain)about issues after elections for now its all about particular tribes uniting and numerical strength . this thread should be postponed till after elections and should read "WHAT DO YOU WANT YOUR NEW PREZZO TO DO FOR YOU?" Politics is just things to keep the people divided and foolish and put your trust in men and none of them can do nothing for you...

How many election promises of the 2007 election have been fulfilled by the grand coalition of the 3 big parties then? I only remember Kalonzos promise of a district for every constituency.

Am a bit behind on this one, when are the presidential debates supposed to start? I also thought there are party manifestos; I guess there was UDF, TNA ODM, WIPER, Fork Kenya, KNC and others. It would have been a sound debate here if we had the manifestos to discuss about which one can be realized and all. , But as things are actually I have seen political announcements with no backing. Its god for Rao to say he will go for stolen public property. What makes you think he will do so after 2013 and he had the time 5 yrs. (well not him) but the man who promised a match for PLO. UHURUTO saying that they will provide jobs for the youth!!! How will they do that? Come April 2013 people will start again the National Anthem. Not to wade away from the topic, Am for WATER which of course will reduce the workload of doctors and nurses so HEALTH.

It is not just a matter of having the same people, but also of the nature of political system that we are going to have, the ambition of the office holders, and the general culture of the citizen that thrives on corruption. The solution I can think of is to add a 'plug in' system that will lead to private provision of essential services, and redefinition of culture and government, and providing public access to capital and information. The result will be higher employment rates, higher tax revenues and greater national integration.
