...my son performed well in school last term. I want to surprise him with a reward . I have realised that he likes dogs. I have checked in the newspapers and good breeds like German shephereds are going for between 30k and 50k. Does anyone know where I can get a good breed at a cheaper price?

What kind of dog do you want? Pedigree or non-pedigree? A pedigree dog (German Shepherd) will cost you about 30k for a 2 month puppy. This is the best age to buy as a pet so that the dog can grow up with the boy! Pedigree dogs have to be registered with the Kernel Club so you are sure to have a very good dog!

For non-pedigree dogs,a 2 month puppy will cost you about 20k and are not registered. These have every chance of being 'mbwa kokos' but with good care and training can be very good! Hope that gives you a start!

A friend of mine has Japanese breeds(do not know the name) The short white-fluffy ones. They are vaccinated and have certificate and registration from both NCC and KSPCA. If interested post your e-mail so I can give you his contact...

Sasha: Thanks so much. I was actually willing to buy a German Shephered for the boy at that much but Mama thereatened she will go back to her parents if I spend so much on a mbwa. The debate is still on.

Mr Tea: Since your friend is in business, there is no harm in posting his contacts here. Otherwise,I am not in the mood of creating an email for the purposes of sourcing for a dog. I will very much appreciate if you could get me his contacts.

Here's some good advice.

All that pure breed dog cr*p is just a myth,if you spend money on one and just raise it the way we traditionally raise our dogs,it will behave exactly like our mbwa kokos.

For you to maintain its pure breed status, you will buy it with a set of instructions on how to train it to do the little tricks etc.

My advice,go to Sarit and buy the puppies that are normally sold around the entrance, have it vaccinated then get some dog training advice from wherever and voila.

But if you have the money, then buy the 30K dog. Then you can have it registered etc and get the added satisfaction which I personally don't understand.

Dude, here is what you need for little junior now that he did you proud,it's about time you did return the favor. There is a chiwawa puppy 7 months old. This is the breed that's quite small, low maintainance is pretty low, intelligent and friendly plus to add cute. I'm sure mama would also fall in love with it. By any chance if you're interested drop me a line - raffnats at gmail.com

regards

@Magigi: Did you find the dog? If not, please let me have your forwarding address (the one you were to create). I have some lovely photos of some available dogs from my guy back in Nairobi. I bought my terrier from him and I can vouch for his dogs!

@Magigi & Kensaf: Check your inboxes!

@Obi & Gordon Gekko: Those dogs at Sarit look like mongrels! Are they still there? Last time I was in that route I didn't see them. I figured that they were chased away after the renovation of that area!

Woiye ati mongrels? they aint that bad looking! and they're still there..they only moved a few steps more into Peponi road targeting guys coming and going to Westgate. BTW,there are always dogs being advertised at the Sarit noticeboard, does anybody know if they are worth a followup?

@Magigi

You cracked me up to no end with your crapping puppies. You must have shovelled alot of crap. How much lessons did you give it and did you follow instructions that are used for the mzungu dogs.

Does this mean Mzungu dogs are born more intelligent than our mbwa koko's. I don't like the sound of that

I now declare myself a novice as far as pet dogs go coz I used to see the pups and they look very nice. Infact they are no different from the one's I see all over the place in Brito.

I can understand the logic of replacing my Zebu cow with a mzungu fresian that gives 10 times more milk, but a pet dog!! No way, when I buy a pup,I will go to Sarit and buy one of Magigi's crap factories and teach it to crap properly.
