I think we as Africans have been lied to for quite sometime, and the lie is that our individual economic growth and development will somehow come from outside (either Politicians or foreign aid).
Keeping on changing presidents and politicians makes us perpetual politicians who are always waiting for things to happen and in a heightened state of politicking.
What is needed is:
- individual inculcation of national values, especially individual integrity and we should learn how to reward money acquired from hard work and not money acquired from corruption, theft e.t.c. we should individually respect other property that belongs to others.
- Rule of Law
- Individual Vision
- Make use of our resources (Money, Natural resources, Manpower, Brains)

the government does not exist to sort you out!

Years back, on this very forum,i think it was still SK back then, i said what we need is a people's dictator. Keyword, PEOPLE'S. A dictator to steer the country thru' some rapid economic growth devoid of all the politicking and long legal/due processes. Closer home, Kagame will do it for Rwanda. It has been done before, in Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong. Now, China is doing it. Democracy is good, but how free is one if they can't even feed themselves? Can't move around coz you are either too broke or you will be mugged? In democracy,a fool got equal say as a genius. One vote. In Hong Kong until recently, the country was being run like a company. Top brains and vetted business leaders voted. The ordinary citizens had no say. In South Korea,it was thru' a dictator that today we have Hyundai,Samsung etc. In Singapore, a tiny island, discipline n dedication is everything. Taiwan, after their founding father landed from mainland, iron grip built modern day Taiwan.
We can preach democracy all we want, but in democracy, a kilometer journey takes years whilst with a people's dictator, the same would be covered in a month. I hate the idea of having to listen to fools just coz they got rights. People idle the whole day with garbage all over but the gov't can't force them to work. Hail Kagame!

What we need to have is a distinction between a Citizen and a Civilian! if you are not adding value - you are a civilian! With the level of politicking we have - we cannot move forward.

We chose the democracy path. We have no option but live by it. There is no possibility that we will get an authoritarian regime any time in the future. Kenya is an activist state. Everyone knows how govt ought to be run at least until u give them the chance to run it! But @masukuma is right, we put too much trust in gvts and political systems.

We always have options. Once the constitution is suspended, everyone sings the gov't song. With such a ruler, this country can be transformed in 20years,in all aspects, most importantly,MENTALITY. People need to work and not expect the gov't or the local authorities to fix everything.

@mkeiy, i believe Kenya is past that stage. We could have done that under KANU but those in power only took care of their interests. If we stop dirty politics and become more patriotic we could just make it

We will never develop if all we do is public vetting, consensus building and political activism. you cannot be talking and working at the same time. When we were young and my mum took us to the farm, we always had to work heads down - anyone who keeps on looking at others never does any work.

We will never develop until we remove these elephants from the room; Tribalism, Nepotism, Corruption, Endless Politicking and Glorifying Western Culture. Kenya has the potential, the manpower and resources to make it. But we are like a cursed man wondering in the wilderness waiting for the ‘ West’and politicians to save us.

Anyway, nothing lasts forever; the Arab Spring came from nowhere and swept the Arab world. Siku moja we will wake up and jipanga ourselves better. I am not holding my breadth though.
